Lennie has masses of reaonably relevant experience, having been at Palace, Bolton and Forest during the last 5 years, so wouldn't be the worst appointment
Yeah, a recruitment agency phoned Riga to ask him if he'd be interested in becoming Head Coach at Charlton next season.
Sensible & IMHO, honourable guy so this makes a lot of sense.
I had heard that should LL come aboard the Titanic, Jose's situation & ability/desire to work with him would be discussed.
And ( hold on to your hats!) if JR decided to pass, the regime would seek a British manager !
Haven't we heard all these tongue in cheek pronouncements somewhere before ?
Call me cynical but, with allegedly only 2,700 season tickets sold until close of business last night, that popular Belgian phrase " appease the customers before we lose any more dosh " comes to mind yet again ....
Just do the decent thing, RD before it gets even more embarrassing.
How the fuck would you know when we were all going in the 80's you were no where to be seen, you Colin were a premiership boy, you know it and we know it.
Best manager Charlton have had great to have him back
On a par with Curbishley in many ways, and undoubtedly a very good manager, but would you say better than Seed?
Admittedly, I can't, but that's only because I'm so young and vibrant, to say nothing of being a vision of loveliness, or truthful (definitely saying nothing at all about being truthful)...
Our club has only had 3 great managers. The Murray regime had busts made of 2 of them and were on show within the club. Lennie is the true forgotten hero, on at least the 4 past occasions he has been back,he has walked along the West Stand track and never gets a mention from the tannoy man (although he does ask to welcome back such heroes as Luke Varney).
In other words - are you going to let me build my own team Roland....or will we be starting with Tucudean up front?
More lunacy. Before it's even begun, we see potential conflicts between manager and DOF. I could perhaps understand their reasoning if we were a top half Championship team with Premiership ambitions, but we are not, we are effectively a Third Division team with much lower revenue. This would add another large salary into the mix, something that could be completely avoided by just appointing a manager like Curbs who could do it all, including player recruitment.
Lennie is a 'football man' and never really gave a stuff about supporters imo.
100% agree. Always had a downer on The Valley.
Absolute bollox, I know someone who lives next door to him and he has very fond memories of Charlton.
Not bollocks. Was at a Back to at the Valley evening and he said he always felt The Valley was cursed etc etc. He had a downer on The Valley at a Back to The Valley doo ffs!
So no not absolute bollocks, but more of time changing his point of view.

Legend for what he did at Selhurst though.
Superstitious man. Thought the valley was a curse and thought selhurst park was a fortress, a home. That's why he kept going back there.

Always remember sponsoring a match at Selhurst and walking through an empty at 2.45 and there was Lennie watching the racing on Grandstand...what he did in that season was true magic.

Can't see it happening though
Lennie did a great job for us after a dodgy start. I still recall him getting abuse over substitutions with fans singing regularly 'lennie Lawrence has f***ed it up again'. Then came the announcement over the tannoy that we had bought John Pearson that marked a brilliant foray into the transfer market got us promotion. I recall that Lawrence showed no empathy with the fans angst at moving away from The Valley. As for having him back, I have no issue with this and would be a positive move for sure. However, I would prefer Roland sells asap and the new owner sorts the new staff out.

We also need good UK scouts and a realization that the character of players, not just their ability, is going to be vital next season.
