Here we go-: Former Charlton Athletic defender Paul Elliott has been linked with leading a takeover bid for the Addicks. The Voice of the Valley fanzine claim in their latest edition that the 52-year-old from Lewisham is fronting a consortium interested in buying the Championship outfit. They say that owner Roland Duchatelet is ready to sell if his £38million asking price is met. “The Voice of the Valley is now able to name former Addicks defender Paul Elliott, a regular in the directors’ box at home matches, as the front man of the second confirmed approach to take over at Charlton in recent months,” said the fanzine. “Elliott first made this interest known through chairman Richard Murray before Christmas. “But with protests intensifying and relegation looming, we have been told the club has been more responsive in recent weeks, which led to the emergence of a potential asking price.” And it is understood that Lennie Lawrence, a former Charlton boss who has also assisted Dougie Freedman at Crystal Palace, Bolton and Nottingham Forest, is in line for a director of football role under the current regime. Duchatelet has also had interest in the club from the Addicks’ ex-chief executive Peter Varney, who also has a mystery backer looking to buy the club, but so far the Belgian tycoon has refused to sit down and discuss a deal.
