HaHa .... Not that I believe this for one minute but how many paying people do they think will turn up to watch football at the Valley. Not even Seb Lewis will give them another penny.
So the guy who posted this on Facebook, Tim Cross, used to work at the club.
Seems a bit too far fetched to me.
Plus it was on the Facebook page.
But let's pretend it is true for a second. Hull City weren't able to force thru' their name change and I doubt that Daisy will be able to do it either.
I hope you are right, but if you had said a decade ago we'd be in League 1 under a mad owner with a CEO who is beneath contempt, and managed by a succession of utterly inept foreigners with no knowledge of English football then it would have seemed impossible.
Christ, until I saw it written down I didn't realise quite how dreadful our situation is.
Realising that most of our players aren't exactly Athletic and are in danger of breaking the Trades Descriptions Act the club has decided upon the name Standard Charlton. Though we are decidedly below standard right now so even that could be a problem.
With this lot nothing is impossible. They have no care for our history nor probably our name. Charlton Athletic or something connected to The Royal Borough of Greenwich ?
Have wondered about this for a while, ever since Greenwich Council leader Denise Hyland declined to show any interest in what's going on. I should know better than respond to an unattributed thing "found on Facebook" but here goes...
Expect it's a remote possibility, but an attempt to rename the club "Royal Greenwich" wouldn't surprise me. The council refers to itself as that to the point of obsession (even though the royal designation refers to the borough not the council) and those within its comfort zone follow suit. So the tall ships stuff gets called Royal Greenwich Tall Ships even though it mainly takes place in Woolwich, and there was an attempt to rename Charlton Lido as Royal Greenwich Lido, which was howled down by its users.
Remote, but nothing would surprise me both with the club and the council.

...sums up the ownership & management and allows Roly & Kat to claim everyone wearing CARD merchandise is already on board with them!

After all, tourists have got no idea where Charlton is, but know Greenwich.
