I really felt for Mak last night; admittedly he had a stinker, but I don't think I've ever seen a player's confidence visibly drain as palpably as that poor boy's did - it was excruciating to witness and the fans' abuse of him was shameful.
When he was finally put out of his misery and literally ran away from his own personal bear - pit I remember thinking, 'Christ, I'm glad I'm not him'.

I hope someone insulted him to his face... Last time someone did that (Broadfoot) they were made to pay!!
Ha! No, these people were doing it from the safety of their cheap plastic seats; some of them probably the same people who were taking selfies with him at the Palace cup game.

They the same people who told Riga he didnt know what he was doing when he brought Sanogo on for the wrong person who eventually got himself sent off?
  • Thought Makienok won the majority of his headers (which is more than what could be said for the Ipswich game), the only time I remember him leaving one was when the ball went so far over his head he'd have needed a step ladder to reach it.

What the problem is though, the opposition have learnt not to bother fighting Makienok in the air but to concentrate on picking up the second ball, every time he got to a header or chested the ball down, it was always an MK Dons player there!!

So my question is... What the hell are his team-mates doing, they just stand there expecting the ball to magically land at their feet every time when they should be in those same areas as the opposition players picking up that second ball (i.e. Makienok's last chest down was aimed at Bergdich who just stood there!!)

Certainly not the worst Charlton performance that I've ever seen although did like it when he took 45mins to get back onside at one stage, got flagged and received an absolute bollocking from Jordan Cousins for it (Proper future Captain if he's around long enough)

Also noticed Cousins reacted badly when Mak tried to bring it down for him and messed it up. His teammates seem to be getting frustrated with him, because eventually the ball stopped coming his way at all.

The offside was bad, but also remember we had a quick counter attack - ball went to Mak on the left, he controlled it, looked at it for a bit (completely stationary) and knocked it back to Fox. Wasn't good enough but felt properly bad for him when he came off to jeers.
  • Sorry but he was like a statue in the end yesterday. We needed players that give a damn about our perilous position. And he didn't look like he did.
That will give you an indication why so many fans were frustrated with him.

Mk came and parked the bus. What do you really expect?

I expect a centre forward to be able to control the ball when it does come to him and for his passes to find a team-mate

Yet those team mates also need to start working themselves to collect a pass...

Doesnt matter who has the ball whenever they look for a Charlton shirt they're statues, move about a bit, come towards the ball and collect it rather than waiting for the MK Dons player to intercept!!
  • didn't look like he wanted to know last night no commitment, no movement was a shocking performance
  • He clearly does not want to be so probably best for all parties concerned that he goes back to Italy. I would rather have the Under 21's out there. At least they might play for the shirt.
  • Poor player who given his size lacks any physical presence. All we did last night was hoof the ball up to him which invariably went straight back to MK Dons.

  • Said it all along - if you have a team that is actually good going forward and gets balls into the box and wins corners etc. then you can get goals out of Makienok. That's why he hasn't worked out with us.
  • I thought he would work out but it hasn't. Probably not cheap. Will get bullied in league one. Get rid.

Makinok has the physical requirements but doesnt seem to have the desire or stomach to use his strength. He doesnt really attack the ball just relies on his height alone, he never tries to attack the goal, push players away or make any impact. Opposition defenders must think they are in for a battle when they see him, then realise all their christmases have come early. He should be demanding the sort of service he wants , fighting to get space to use his height, and Using his strengths to withstand opposition players and attack the goal. He should be getting booked a lot more than the three times he has.

Saying all that if he had these attributes he wouldnt be playing for a pishpoor team like us anyways.

You would also end a flicking player who could get a decent ball in box or take a decent corner.
  • I never joined in the ironic cheering earlier in the season and didn't boo him off BUT
I have absolutely zero sympathy for him- he earns about as much in a month as the most of us fans in a year, and the guy ambles around the pitch with zero urgency.
Last night was the worst individual performance I've ever seen
  • At one point last night, Baldock did a half hearted jog with the ball past Mak, and he literally turned like a tractor trying to catch him, I went from foaming at the mouth to laughter at this point.
  • I stand by what I said early in the season. I think he's a nice bloke from interviews and what not but ultimately he is a crap player.
  • He would make a great a great painters model, being happy not to move around too much !
  • Feel sorry for him na I feel sorry for me watching this bloke having the centre back push the ball past him and leave him for dead.

If he is anywhere near this club next year then we will fall way beyond league 1

He's tall he isn't big built. These comments make me laugh about Physical presence... like crouch had any unless he was pulling hair.

Difference being though Crouch was good.

  • MK came for the draw, a draw is as good as a win for them in their position, keeping us hopeless.

Makienok didn't get any kind of service from our players, you'd expect him to drop deeper to try and get involved a bit more, but he didn't, whether that was Riga telling him to stay up on his own or not, who knows.
  • Non-league player.

    He's a strange one.

Generally ineffectual, but every now and again he shows a flash of quality. The rest of the time he lopes round in a lackadaisical manner and gesticulates in a histrionic fashion at - who? Himself? His team mates?

If I was a giant Norseman, I'd make sure the opposing defenders would know I was there. Mak just seems rather powder puff in his approach.

I would just like to commend you on your correct spelling/use of this word Hovi. I don't know why, but when I constantly hear it pronounced incorrectly as 'lacksadaisical' I let it really wind me up!!

Very unhealthy I know but my phobia of its incorrect spelling/pronunciation is on a par with the 'gun Ho' (gung Ho!) and 'tender hooks' (tenter hooks!) brigade.

I even texted in to the BBC 3 Counties radio fella last night when he said 'lacksadaisical' during the commentary. Just no excuses whatsoever!!!

    I thank you.
  • I know he had a stinker but I absolutely hate hearing one of your own players get the bird like that.

Me too. We're all hurting but some of our fans need to have a word with themselves.

Seems like every week there's a new contender for 'worst ever to pull on a Charlton shirt', swiftly forgotten when they have a good game.

Two games ago there were people (including me) who were aghast Harriot was starting. Now he's the second coming.

But only for part of the game until Riga takes him off

I was wrong about Makienok. We were unbeaten at the start of the season, before he got injured.

I thought his performances, whilst awkward looking, must have been a major factor, perhaps not.

He's had a handful of good games, but he's definitely not Championship standard.

He surely must go at the end of the season.

  • He was soo bad. I was watching him second half and he clearly has zero confidence because every time the ball went out he looked towards the bench expecting to be subbed off.
  • Lack of skill/quality and lack of confidence are excusable in a team of our standard.

    Lack of effort is not.
  • His good performance against Rotherham shows he has something about him, albeit in a limited way. He is slow and cumbersome, but I believe he always tries hard, and for that I quite like him.

I think he needs to play with an Igor type of player, who can read his flicks. As a sole striker he is less effectual.

    He defends well at corners.

Not the best CF we have ever had, but in my opinion, not the worse either.
