Can see RD/KM/RM deciding that the team above + a new striker (there's a good young Polish lad we could buy off De Graafschap) is good enough to get back out of league 1, wrongly so.
Dunno... A lot of squads in League One rely heavily on their Youth Academies and Loans these days... You've not really seen any big signings being made by clubs signing players from League Two and dont forget the whole loan market is changing from next season meaning you can only sign a Loan Player in the Summer or January.
I always keep an eye on the other Leagues but is League One harder than when we won it?
Probably not in regards to quality and size of teams down there, instead it seems harder because the Division is much tighter (again maybe because your not seeing much in the way of sales?) and there are more teams that are capable of mounting a challenge...
No offence to the three but Burton / Walsall / Gillingham havent spent, they've relied on their current squads and its paid off for them... Next season I wouldnt be surprised if those three struggled in League One (well Burton look like they'll go up) whilst we see the likes of Blackpool or Fleetwood challenging (who are battling to avoid relegation)
Fair enough, must say that the Football League Show goes off for me after the Championship, but yeah the league doesn't seem as strong as when we were last down there - considering that we were mixing it with Norwich, Leeds, Southampton, Wednesday, Shef Utd, Huddersfield w/ Rhodes (and Millwall weren't bad then).
Say we had the team I've guessed in League 1 (minus Joe Piggott), I think the biggest thing is that we'd be a decent lower league goalscorer away from challenging for promotion, Bergdich & Ceballos I can't see flourishing down there, would be great if we kept Harriott, CM doesn't scream creativity but the back 4/5 is good enough - although we're comfortably the worse defence in the Championship on paper.
Couple of cheap signings and patching it up with loans could work. Maybe League 1 is where borrowing network players is actually useful?
We've been doing cheap signing and patching it up for 2 years - 41 debuents in that time. We're really in the shit for the foreseeable. It's going the same way as it has at Portsmouth.
We will get about 7 million for all the saleable assets. Lookman- 1.5 M, Baeur- 500000- Gudmundsson- 1m, Cousins1 M, Kashi- 200000, Bergdich- 200000, Vetokele 500000, Watt- 1 M, Henderson 500000. Texeira 300000. Lennon- 200000.Fox- 200000. Motta,Suk Young, Poyet, Pigott, Sho Silva, Ansah, Makienok, Reza Harriott, Fanni, Dmitrovic, Diarra will all be released.
I am expecting pretty much the whole squad who can be sold to be sold;
Henderson. £0 Motta £0 Teixiera £200K if lucky Bauer. £200K if lucky Sarr. £0 Fox £0 Cousins. £500K Kashi. £200K if lucky Ba. £0 Bergdich. £0 Gudmundsson. £1M Vetokele. £500K if lucky Lookman. £2M Watt. £500K if lucky
Others leaving will be all the loanees (inc Makienok), plus Motta, Fanni, Diarra, Tucudean and Reza whose contract s will end this summer.
I think Roland might clear some £15m out of that lot (even with Night Meire handling negotiations if she is allowed!), and if he does, he might then sell the club!
Did you miss a decimal place... £1.5M?
Realistically I reckon the above is the very best we could hope for which is about £5M. Given we paid off Morrison and he is better than any of the CB's listed I can see us getting half that tbh and that will all then go buying the likes of Bergdich and Sarr out of their ridiculous contracts.
I did say might! I think that Bauer and Teixeira will command more than £200k each. Vetokele will bring in about a mill, as will Watt. JBG should be worth more than a mill as is Lookman, and Cousins may also bring in over a mill. Others, like Sarr, Hendo, Fox, etc may bring in a couple of hundred grand each too, so, all of a sudden, your £5m becomes ten, then, with decent negotiation and a good end-of-season from Igor and Ade we (Roland that is) could get close to £15m?
PS I'm only trying to be positive about this so that Roland gets lots of money and can then decide to sell us.

I'm afraid that I may have spotted a couple of flaws in your argument...
With the negotiating skills available to the regime, step forward our fragrant and lovely CEO, it's more likely that we'll be paying out the sums you mention.

The key here is not to let Night Meire handle the discussions - Roland would never be stupid enough to do that surely??? Otherwise, you might be right!
I think players on longer contracts are more likely to leave on 'season loans' where the other club pays most/all of their wages.
For example, Tex only just signed a 4.5 year contract. If other clubs don't match his current terms/contract length, then he is unlikely to leave permanently; only on loan. Or we will take a much lower offer *undisclosed* so that someone takes his contract off our hands.
Katrien will have spreadsheets that she needs to balance, so I can't see us keeping the better imports (Kashi, Bauer, Teixeira, Watt) to help mount a promotion push.
Also you have to take into account a lot of players will want to leave I don't see JBG wanting to play League 1 for instance. I can see a major clear out coming and in return we get a load of players from leagues we have never heard of.
Not sure many will leave why simple because nearly every player has been missing at some point this season so not really proved themselves so who going to buy players that have not played ... The players that might go Henderson because again not been his best this year and you have Pope and Mitov behind who at some point have to be given a chance .... Fox ,same reason but who going to buy him ? Couisins again all the talk about him as gone ? Gudmunnson the only one who will leave and the only one who will demand a decent fee ..
The rest will stay and if we can keep them all fit like Bauer, Diarra , Vetokeke , Kashi then we will bounce back
Charlton. That's our entire strategy.
Oh Christ, that's the final destination for this ownership isn't it? Signing crocked players from ourselves for undisclosed fees. I can imagine it now, us bringing in Kashi next season as our marquee signing for an undisclosed fee from Charlton, with the club trumpeting his English league experience and the fact he has previously worked with members of the squad.
We will get a load of Belgium pub league players next year, when in league 1. RD will not pay much for them or pay them much. Then when he finds that 1 in a million player he will have made a profit on player transfers.
None of them... but we wont have a Powell to unearth and put a proper squad together, we will have the same atrocious approach and be mid table by christmas and mis out on relegation just... in front of 8000 fans... he then might just fuck off...
Bauer is more likely to go than Johnson, Henderson will not be in great demand and Lookman, IF he goes, having just signed a new contract and (lastly) presuming that his contract does not contain a small 'buy out clause', will not be going cheaply .. I can see Piggot being given a free and will Diarra, Fanni, Kashi and Motta want to hang around to play lower league football ? .. I'd like to see BigMak stay, for all his foibles and lack of skills, he is a willing big old lump and as was written elsewhere, is the type who could do well against less organised and capable defences .. but he's only a loanee and the stick he has (reportedly) been getting at the Valley may dissuade him from staying .. JBG will probably go, definitely is he has a half decent Euro tournament ..
I can't see any out of contract players wanting to stay so presumably Harriott, Reza, Motta and the loanees will be off as soon as possible.
I think Lookman, Gudmundsson, Cousins and Bauer are our most saleable players and Cousins has had a poor season. The rest are decent but crocks (Kashi, Vetokele, Solly) Or on massive contracts that other clubs won't match (Sarr, Bergdich, Ba, Johnson, Fox etc)
I have no doubt that many of them will want to leave, but I'm not sure if they will be able to given the length of contracts and shite performances.
A lot of this season reminds me of our 2008/09 relegation year. When we were relegated then we were also stuck with players on expensive long contracts that we couldn't shake off. (McLeod, Sinclair, Moutaouakil and argubly Racon)
The problem is that any retention of the majority of the squad (as per AddickRam's suggestion for instance) is going to result in a very large wage bill. And that, IMO, is untenable in the third division. I think most contracted players will be sold, maximising RD's return, and any that can't be sold will be loaned out to cut the weekly salary bill.
One thing that may not have been considered by some is the impact of FFP on us next season - what is the acceptable loss limit for League One clubs (I think it is much lower than Championship teams)?
Just imagine we survive in the championship! Next season we could line up Henderson Motta,Baure Tex,Young Gudmundsson,Kasi,Diarra,Berdich Makinok,Vetokele
all fit, all non English and raring to go..........OR
in Div 1 an English based Charlton of
Pope Solly, Saar, Lennon, Fox Charles-cooke,Cousins, Ba, Harriot Aherne-Grant, Kenedy
Both have their advantages... The Championship squad if we keep together and build on (only a little bit more is needed I think) then we could threaten for the Premier League in the next two / three years
That League One squad would be excellent to see and would show the rest of England how good our Academy is
Can see RD/KM/RM deciding that the team above + a new striker (there's a good young Polish lad we could buy off De Graafschap) is good enough to get back out of league 1, wrongly so.

Good work Mr Otto.
I realised we had used a few players over the last two years but 41, ffs!
Yesterday, on seeing the selection, I made a comment that Riga was 'auditioning for next season' .. I was wrong, of course he wasn't, it was a team selected from desperation .. of the eleven starters (only one of whom was English and one Irish), five are on short term loans or season long contracts and a sixth, Diarra has a contract that expires in mid summer with the option of a year's extension .. Gudmundsson has just signed on for four years, but seems to have fallen as much out of love with the fans as the fans have with him, so that he might well be off sooner rather than later. Ba and Teixeira are on 3 and 4 year deals, Johnson and Henderson shorter permanent contracts. Amongst the many players missing through injury, we still have the nucleus (I hope) of a half decent squad, given an improvement in management and all round morale at CAFC incorporated
So, when we are rebuilding for a promotion push from Division 1 next season, who might be brought in, how much will Duchatelet, if he's still around, be prepared to invest ?. I would have a preference for English/British players, then again who would not prefer that state of affairs ? I would also have a preference for a English owner, a fast disappearing species in this era of the globalisation of English football at all levels. I repeat the Chinese curse .. 'may we live in interesting times'
Of the team that started yesterday I think we'll only see Henderson, Johnson and possible Teixeira.
Then the subs we'll have Pope and Fox.
Division three football will not be to the liking of the others, I cannot see a former world cup finalist liking lumps being kicked out of him at Chesterfield and Fleetwood.

Released/Out of Contract: Diarra, Pigott, Sho-Silva, Ansah, Obileye
Sold: Gudmundsson, Vetokele, Ghoochannejhad, Lookman, Watt (£10m the lot?) with Kashi, Dmitrovic and Tucudean thrown in as ballast

Leaving:
GOAL: Henderson (fitness too doubtful to count on a sale), Pope, Mitov, Phillips
DEFENCE: Holmes-Dennis, Solly, Lennon, Johnson, Thomas
MIDFIELD: Jackson, Cousins, Ceballos, Harriott, Ba, Muldoon, Charles-Cook
STRIKERS: Ahearne-Grant, Kennedy, Umerah
Looks to me like a squad that will struggle in League One unless strengthened.
