Win 5, draw 5, lose 5 should do us, 44 points.

The average points score to avoid relegation the last 5 years has been 46, which includes Peterborough who went down on 54. Right now, we are on schedule for 37 points which will see us relegated every time.
42 would have been enough last season.

41 was enough in 2012. Our luck isn't that good though!

As an aside, I don't think we'd be in the bottom 3 now if it wasn't for Nick '5 hole' Pope and M. Duchatelet's refusal to carry an experienced back-up keeper.
  • When we go down (which must surely happen now) it'll be the owner's fault, but having Kashi in the side would have made a big difference. He was brilliant in the first two home games and I believe we'd be mid table now if he had stayed fit. I guess he'll be too good to play for us in Div 1 next season.

    Ooh that's harsh on Pope!

Whereas Pope did look shaky at times early on the season- I can only think of a few points that he personally cost us - Soft goal at home to Hudds, arguably cost 1 point in a 1-2 defeat. Soft goal v Fulham cost 2 in a 2-2 draw.

Hendo has made as many mistakes if not more this season.
  • Win 5, draw 5, lose 5 should do us, 44 points.

    Unlikely to be enough, IMO.
Agree - 50+ needed in my view.

Stop that, there's no place for reasoned arguments here...

Go, take your factual analysis, and sit in the corner.

No way do you need 50 points this season. 46 will probably be enough.

Agreed. Just for context, in the previous ten seasons, a club has needed 50 points or more to survive on only two occasions.

2012/2013 Peterborough relegated on 54 points, Barnsley survived on 55.
2007/2008 - Leicester relegated on 52 points, Coventry survived on 53.

In both of those seasons, the bottom placed club after 31 games already had over 30 points.

I haven't worked out the average over that period, but 46 looks be there or thereabouts.
  • Hope you're (both) right

  • It might be hard to argue with a mad absentee owner but it's even harder to argue with maths like this. It doesn't look good. Regardless, I want 3 points this weekend. Even if we have to mug them for it.

Even more unlikely to actually happen, in mine
  • No point in looking too far ahead in terms of points required. We just need to try to close the gap ASAP to put some pressure on teams above. If we can make up 3 points within the next 5 or so games it will make things very interesting heading into the final 10 games.
  • Was thinking the other day that this thread (well the title) is going to be damned awkward if we stay up
