"Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet says he wants to buy more British-based players as part of a recruitment rethink - but has vowed that any head coach must subscribe to promoting academy players."
There are plenty of managers out there who are skilled, experienced AND capable of working with youngsters, it's more BS from Roly, clearly.
Fair enough I get that... With FFP in force these days, the only way to drive forward fairly is by promoting Youth Players, yet it cant be done willy nilly, it has to be done at the right time, not just for the club in the league but for the player as well.
The first season when Jose came he was really only an interim because that’s the idea we had at the beginning.
Karel Fraeye has been the academy manager of Gent, who became champions last season in Belgium. He also very good knowledge of working with young players and was willing to do so. He brought in players that other coaches would never have done, I think, and successfully.
Okay this is fair enough... Jose was only ever Interim so everyone moved on when his job was done (which was to ensure the safety of Charlton in the Championship that season)... Karel was hired because he worked with the Gent Academy, again fair enough but if he was only an interim too I have two questions:
(1) Like Jose Riga, what was he tasked with, because Riga when he came in, had three months to stabilise the club and ensure our safety... Karel Fraeye on the other hand was a wasted three months and could well be the reason we go down.
(2) If Karel was interim like Jose... Why did the club never look for his replacement like they clearly did with Riga?
Lots of "sympathy" for the fans but not a single apology or hint of one.
The league position is because of injuries and the protests are because of the league position.
We don't agree with what he's doing because we don't know/understand everything (he's a visionary genius, how are us mere mortals supposed to understand?)
We're not as big as a supporter as Murray because we haven't invested as much as him.
Katrien has a great heart and is doing a great job for the club she loves.
Thank goodness he's cleared all that up. Disband CARD and call the protests off, everything is ok after all.
Nobody is more disappointed than Alan Turing that we're in this predicament. However the fragrant Katrien will continue to do a marvellous job to make us nice. We learn from our mistakes which is why we continue to make them in order to fully understand them first. I love this Club which is why I stay away because I am in danger of being overwhelmed by the love when I'm here. Supporters are understandably a little disappointed because we made a mistake with the crossbars music when we should've hired Chas and Dave and sold pies served by famous player Derek Peacock. We call on fans to buy season tickets for next season which we're not preparing for because the Duchatelet family have had a tough year because we are determined to repeat the same yesterday tomorrow. I can reveal to fans today that by May a team of my Belgian guys will have built a DLR extension to include a station at historic Pound Park Road, which, when Crossrail kicks in, means we can attract fans from Richmoñd.

Dean Smith is one huge name from the lower leagues here in England...He brought tons of players through the Walsall academy (with Will Grigg and Jamie Patterson being two players who have gone on to better things).
In fact any Manager in the Lower Leagues is worth looking at for the reason of promoting Youth... None of them have huge budgets so provided they have a Youth team (I know some clubs have abolished theirs) its all the Manager can rely on

That is the point I was trying to make earlier but you have put it so much clearer.

Was disgusted when Roland pretty much said that him and Katrien love Charlton as much as we do... We really are being taken for idiots, what association do they have with the club? - Katrien has admitted she's a St-Truiden fan!!
I'm starting to think Karel Fraeye had compromising photos of RD. Perhaps this is the information we don't know about which explains why things turned out as they did.

Can't think of a footballing explanation.
RD said that he likes coaches who have experience managing youth. Karel Fraeye had a number of years coaching U11, U12 and U13 teams. Chuck in a cheap wage and he's the perfect RD puppet.
Classic own goal by the the triumvirate of bozos running our club. Just when the protests were perhaps losing a little momentum - they are on hand to fan the flames.
btw, anyone got the companies house forms to sack this bell end?
Glad that's all cleared up. He is indeed being altruistic by not selling, as it "would not be beneficial to the club". There was me thinking he was in it for the money/ the fun of running his own weird football experiment. He's actually doing as an "adventure" and he's doing it for us. Thanks.
Well congrats to the SLP for getting the scoop, and well done to them for publishing all that. He might have tried a little contrition to get people on board, but the bottom line is that didn't give one single thing that suggests a change in tack. Frankly, to not be planning for League 1 now is perhaps the most stupid thing he's (n)ever done. That's where we're heading, Roly. You've done nothing to stop it and now you're shutting your eyes and pretending it's not happening. A bit like how you've treated the fans' unrest for months on end. Pathetic!
Frankly the best thing in those reports was this picture:
He looks really haunted. A man who's bitten off more than he can chew. He is a failure and he seemingly has no answers but to whistle in the dark hoping for a change of fortune. Well Roly, expect things to get worse, because there's nothing you've said there that will make those ghosts go away.
That picture makes me really angry - seeing him in the ground. I know it's 'his' club and he do what he likes. But seeing him there.......... I'm hoping there's a 2nd picture after a sniper has taken him out.

I don't know where to begin on that one.
This is regarding Lookman, which Karel will probably have in bold on his CV.
Why would other coaches "never" promote the top scorer/best player from their U21s?

Another prat comment from Roland as you could say that Bob Peeters had the guts to promote Karlan Ahearne-Grant (wasnt it straight from the U18s into the Norwich and Fulham matches) whilst Guy Luzon had the guts to promote Mikhail Kennedy.
On a positive note. Good that Duchatelet confirms that there is on-going interest in Charlton and alternatives to his crap ownership.
This - was talking to the guy who sits next to me last Saturday and he was definitely in the "who else would buy us?" camp. Thankfully, Roland has blown away the one shred of credibility he had with admitting there are willing buyers out there.

And perhaps explains why Riga gave Umerah his debut when we were 5-0 down at Hull. All to please the big boss.
I'm on holiday tomorrow so will miss the game and the protest, I hope we win the game and the protest is huge and successful. These interviews will help to fan the flames a bit more.

Every football coach in the land, if faced with injured/ineffective striking options in the first team would, if unable to bring in experienced cover on loan (in this case because of the insane policies of a certain Belgian numpty or two), would have brought Lookman through into the first team.
To me, it looks like he's paving the way for either Luzon or Fraeye to return in some guise in the future (probably Fraeye as Academy Director, because that's the one part of the club that has not been fully integrated yet into The Shareholder's Belgian-centred model, far too many local coaches identifying and developing local talent).
I share everyone's views of the inadequacy of what RD has had to say, so I'm not going to repeat it.
Instead, looking at the potential positives:
1. Coming out and backing KM publicly puts a hell of a lot of additional pressure on her to improve and get things right. We know she is already under a lot of pressure. The focus of CARD communications this week has been her lies and blunders. Keep focus on that and she may make the decision for him and leave.
2. RD refers to information he has that we don't about why things have gone wrong. Maybe. So tell us.
3. The fact that he has now put himself, rather than RM and KM, as the spokesman for the club is an opportunity. Communication is two-way, and we could now approach him directly with our measured response to his comments and raise other issues of concern that he did not address. Is this not an opportunity, maybe for the Trust, to engage with him directly in the absence of KM failing to meet her commitment to the establishment of a strategy group?
Katrien is doing a good job, Murray is the ultimate fan, we are learning from mistakes- less than a month ago he tried to get the Ujpest guy in What a waste of time this was; it will just fuel fan's hatred

Did he apply for the Luton job but not the Charlton job. Seems unlikely.
Young, British, good with academy players so what was missing from his CV?
Oh, yeah I forgot. Hasn't been previously employed by Roland and/or from Belgium.
Dmitrovic, Pope, Mitov,Fanni, Solly,
Obileye,Thomas,<<del>u>Baeur,Johnson, Lennon, Texeira,Sarr, Holmes- Dennis, FoxGudmundsson,
Ba,Jackson, Poyet, Cousins,Charles- Cook, Harriott, Muldoon, Bergdich, Kashi,Sho - Silva, Pigott, Tucudean, Watt, Vetokele, Makienok, Lookman,Reza, Sanogo. Now take out the ones not good enough or not ready.
Cheers @ForeverAddickted I was meant to Bold up a few who are either injured or there is still question marks about
btw, anyone got the companies house forms to sack this bell end?
You can probably cross Fanni and Sanogo off too - seems Riga has...

True or false ?
