More views on last night

Just read the interview with Deano. Says we have suffered from players who don't give a t055 basically. Need players in who give a damn about CHARLTON. Top man, Deano.

Speaking of which I see Marcus Bent and Jerome Thomas were in the rags again today re that scouse bint. Get rid of these wasters asap. I like the way JT turned up to collect his goal of the year award, and didn't even bother coming out to applaud the fans at the end. I wonder if he watched the game? Scum. Fair play to Kish, Dennis and Reidy for coming out at the end. I've also had a lot of time for Young (espoecially in the past) - looked like he was gutted to be fair. But compare the majority of the team to the Palace players when we sent THEM down - they were mostly truly gutted and played for the shirt - how many of ours last night?

THANKYOU SCOTT CARSON and DARREN BENT - top professionals, and all the best for the future - you deserve a good one.

Well done to the fans as well, my voice was wavering during the VFR in the last 5 mins... very moving. You couldn't make up Defoe scoring though, could you?! Would be nice if the Lower sung at other times bar once a season tho!

Anyway let's get a squad of players in the mould of Johnny Robinson, Stevie Brown, Chrissy Powell etc etc instead of dross with delusions of Grandeur like Ambrose, Thomas and Marcus Bent.

  • Agree with most of that but you are out of order on Ambrose, he has his faults as a player but he was in pieces at the end of the game and was gutted.
  • Fair comment - I was harsh on Ambrose.
  • but he was rubbish.
  • I think it is probable Ambrose will be very good for us next season- don't ask me why, just do!
  • well on last nights display, no one will want to buy him, so looks like he'll have to stay!!! so hope you're right!

I assume you're in the upper? Point of order then - the lower sing a lot, you just don't hear most of it. Also, the noise made upstairs is amplified by the low roof and it makes hearing anything else over it v.difficult.

I'm at the back of the lower, underneath the upper in fact, and virtually all the upper is lost on us due to the acoustics. When I had the misfortune to be sitting next to the tunnel at the Liverpool game I was amazed at how much came out of the upper.
  • did you clap robinson when he came over to the goal at the start of the match?
    nice club us..!!!

Always have clapped opposition keepers when they take place in the covered end goal. Just think its a tradition that does no harm, dont think for one minute that if we yelled abuse at him it would effect them so no point in not showing a bit of sportsmanship.
  • i've seen it before but just last night i noticed it a lot more and how many clapped him.

    We're lovely arent we.
  • Always clap the visiting Keeper, this one also happens to be our National keeper so respect from our fans should be a given.

  • do you give respect to our national captain too when he's playing?
  • [cite]Posted By: Ketman[/cite]Always clap the visiting Keeper, this one also happens to be our National keeper so respect from our fans should be a given.

    i wouldn't say 'should'

clap him after the game by all means, he's a good keeper, we weren't playing england, we were playing spurs and i wanted a goal to go in off his face for 90 mins, so wasn't going to clap him before the game started.

each to their own and all that! :-)
  • Who is our national Captain again ? When it was Becks Definately, think it is JT now, seem to remember him clapping the North Stand after the game when leaving the pitch for Chelsea last season.

I think applauding the visiting keeper is just something that I have always done when I have been behind the goal, always did it when I was in the Sainsbury's end at Palarse & now having moved to North this season have started it again, probably just a habit.

i wanted goals to go past him to but i dont think clapping him or not is going to make the slightest difference! He came down towards our end clapping us so more than usual clapped him back.

Him and carson shook each others hands as they swapped, maybe carson should give ggggguuuurrr next time ;-)
  • i noticed it for david james a few years back when i used to sit in the north lower but its not something i did. and i certainly wouldnt do it before a must win game.

yes it is John Terry. god do you remember when a load of people clapped beckham when he was taking a corner a few years ago... cringe.
  • suzi - agree Ambrose was shite (as were all our "midfield"); but if he was in bits at the end (didn't really notce him myself), then fair play i spose

Agree with that not during a game

I'm not saying we should boo him when he changes ends or anything, but i wouldn't clap him before the game started.

ketman mentions clapping terry, fair do's after the game.

its not a major gripe, i was more surprised than anything, that we were willing our team on to win for survival and gave the opposition keeper a polite ripple of applause!

whether it made a difference to his game or not (booing doesnt work in our favour a la defoe so no point in doing that) maybe its reverse tactics :-)

REPLY (can't get quote in yellow...duhh!)

I usually am in upper North, tho last nite was in lower west by the tunnel myself (thankfully near a few people willing to give loud vocal support). It's just amazing how much difference it makes when we're *all* singing - looks really impressive etc - would really intimidate intimidating teams if we could carry on like that at every match. Was actually nice to watch the North and get an overall view!

The last time I was in the North Lower was 4-0 defeat to Chelsea - Me and a mate stood up and started VFR just after kickoff, and a lot of the people around us looked at us as if we were aliens and/or started sniggering.

fair enough he was upset, but perhaps more because of his performance rather than for the team!

he was rubbish, he did try tho, i'll give him that, he just wasn't very successful. so fair do's him being gutted. i hope he is great for us next season, as i hope they all are.

I don't mind anyone playing for us as long as they 110%. i'll even wipe the slate clean with marcus bent if he gives his all for us next season.

  • I think it was more to do that Robinson started clapping the crowd as he run over, and they gave an appreciative round of applause in response.
  • All this talk about how nice we are to visiting keepers - you might want a word with Nicky Weaver about that!

Applause after a match is one thing, beforehand less agreeable. Martin Jol ackowledged the home support last night after the match which was good of him. Frankly, London rivalries aside, we don't have much of an axe to grind with Tottingham - quite honestly we play in a different league to them (literally after last night).
  • Strange how you see the game differently I thought Ambrose & Holland did alright last night, the two loan signings were awful, clear they didn't give a shit while it clearly meant something to the other two, they looked like they would have run through walls for the team last night, perhaps not as technically good as the other two but offered much more.
  • Actually I forgot about Holland - thought he actually had a good game, yeah
  • I guess it is fair to say Ambrose had one his better nights.
  • I though his distribution was woeful. How many corners were cleared by the first defender? He may have tried hard but I thought he posed no threat at all.
  • Funny how we all see games differently. I though Holland was excellent last night and I thought Ambrose had a decent game too. Ambrose had a lot of the ball and had a go at his full back throughout. It was much harder for him in the 2nd half, though, once Gardener came on for Rocha, who really did struggle in the 1st half
  • holland played well, song and zheng were terrible too.

salad> better nights? there's not much hope for us if he stays then! he gave the ball away everytime he got it, he ran at spurs players with the ball and they came away with it every time, and his corners, as stated above, didnt pass the first man!

he has had some good games this season, few and far between, but i'm sure last night wasn't one of them. not in my eyes anyway.

where was dennis? thought he'd have come on for the last 15 mins?
  • I think Dennis would have given that fullback some problems in the first half. Presume he was dropped for Sam
  • Romm & Thomas were injured according to Pards on the OS.
