I shook his hand last night as he was leaving the stadium, I also saw song leave in what can only be described as a bullet proof tank.....

throats gone and big hangover but actually thought last night was excellent from our fans perspective, six renditions of valley floyd back to back...
  • Excellent article, amazingly honest comment on Curbs too.

    Deano - what a man!
  • Legend SIMPLE AS
  • A brilliant comment by another Charlton family member and legend.
  • What a fantastic piece.

Remember every time you want to scream and swear at your Marcus Bent's and your Jerome Thomas', who are more interested in playing the minor celeb at West End nightclubs, there are Deano's and Stevie Brown's playing the game as well.
  • Agree, very good piece.

If Deano and Chris Powell were 3 years younger I would have them back in the fizzy pop no question.
  • Deano gets it bang on and I still think Curbs was wrong to oust him for Myhre and Andersen.

I would not have minded dropping him for Scotty but both Andersen and Myhre were no better than an under-performing Deano.

I think Deano's "auto pilot" comment on AC is bang on.
  • Without letting the 'nice bloke' thing get in the way, could he do a job for us in the Championship?
  • Yes, I have seen him on TV for Luton and West Brom and he looks very useful indeed still.

And a much better bet than Darren Randolph, no offence to the kid.
  • The question is what really happened a year and a half ago when Smertin, Murphy and all the other players not bothering to play all of the sudden.

  • Yes, Pete, that is a very good question indeed.

I remember watching that 3-0 win up at Boro with Murphy and Smertin bossing it and Rommedahl, Thomas and Benty tearing it up and thinking, "Yes, we've finally arrived, we are now one of the big guns."

Then, we lose at home to the Spuds and the wheels fell off big style.

Methinks that is where Inspector Morse would start his investigations.
  • That was the chance we had, but I believe Curbs bottled it; and the players just got fed up with the lack of ambition.

Such a bloody waste, that's what gets me.

the boro game particularly, curbs had them playing total football and who needed parker anymore? the curbs-out merchants were silenced for once and everything looked very rosy.come christmas and everything had gone wibble.
  • we got found out as I recall, we were too one dimensional, all clubs did was mark Murphy out of the game and that was that?
  • Hasn't Randolph been in the Ireland set up?

I can't see why he doesn't get a run next year? I expect him to play against Liverpool next week.

You've never seen this kid play yet writing him off for Dean Kiely who has had his day.

As I said in a previous post he played a full season on loan at Accrington stanley so he is not UNTRIED -and has been picked for Ireland full squad (i think) - he must be given his chance now especially in the CCC -

Maybe we'll find out sooner than that... hopefully Pards will give him a game at Anfield. Not like we've got anything to lose is it.
  • I love deano.
    dreamy.
  • Nothing to lose now so surely he will get a game at Anfield.
  • DEANO!!!!

    Charlton's Number One!

    Love 'im.

  • Dean Kiely is and absolute legend and i hope he comes back too us next year and plays in the champiosnhip for us DEANOOOOOOO DEANOOOOO

    100% certain that he could.

Oh, come on. I admit I've never seen Randolph play but commonsense suggests that a tried and tested Deano would be a much better bet than a 19 year-old rookie keeper in the CCC. Wenger had never seen Walcott play either and still picked him in front of Premiership tested Dazza, was that a smart move?

Sorry, but we need an experienced keeper next season, if Randolph comes through then that's great but a loan spell at Accrington Stanley does not cut the mustard when you are going for promotion.
  • Stick to Aussie rules mate
  • Oh, very droll.

Tell you what, you've got a choice next year of who plays up front for us, OK?

Let's say the choice is between Kevin Phillips, past his best but about to get 20 goals in the CCC this season at 33, and Chris Dickson whose most recent experience is with Dulwich Hamlet and has NO league experience.

Why would you choose anyone but the proven performer?

You don't get out of the CCC without experienced players, that's a fact.
  • "Why would you choose anyone but the proven performer?"

Because they offer more potential?? By your same theory Hasselbank should be a 40 goals a season striker in the CCC and Birmingham shouldn't have been promoted with Larrsson, Bendtner in the side let alone with a 20 year old keeper who made his debut this season!

It's not about the individual it's about building the side thats right to get out rather than picking players on 'experience'
  • LOL You're a feisty 'erbert incha

West Brom haven't got "out" though have they and that is a totally different position so irrelevant - but I make you right of course I would go for Phillips that's a no brainer. Goalkeeper wise you can get away with a young keeper at that level I think you can (now you don't have to agree but that's MY opinion).

I am not saying either we should have a team of under 21's you got to have a good mix. Look at us in the PL this season. Lots of experienced pros - got us nowhere. Carson was "untried" to a certain extent before coming to us as well.
  • I saw Randolph play pre-season at Hibs. I have serious doubts based on that performance.
