Berbatov

edited May 2007 in General Charlton
What a player is he? His class showed through tonight. He really is a special talent. Oh for unearthing somebody like him. Tonight we saw the main reason we have been relegated. We just don't possess anybody with real flair and craft. They all tried hard. - Yes Even Marcus Bent although he was clearly shagged out....:-) Lukewarm and Diawara were our stand out players. What a pity two defenders stood out when we needed something at the other end.

Whatever else happens next season, we need to unearth some real creativity in midfield. I am more worried about that than players to put the ball in the net. Carving out chances have really been at a premium this season and particularly over these last four home games.

  • What was Diawara doing on Berbatov's goal ? You have one of the most dangerous forwards in the prem the go and cover your defensive partner in case he gets done...he didn't even bother running after Berbatove when he beat El Kak. We've defended like schoolboys all season and deserve what we got. If you believe Diawara was worth 3.7m then I'm on the wrong website !!!!
  • well he's been our best defender for the last couple of months

berbatov is pure class however I do believe if I earned the sort of money he does then I wouldn't be getting my haircut on the welfare state.
  • berbatov is absolute quality and his goal last night was fcuking class, he absolutely mugged El Kak

Behave yourself - Diawarra was not at fault.

Berbatov is an absolute star - not a defender in the world could have stopped that.
  • Agreed, been impressed with him all season, and the goal last night sadly justified that.

Be interesting if Spurs will be able to resist the inevitable bid.
  • Class Goal from a class player, plus he still had to beat Carson who is no mug. How much is he worth to Spurs now ...£20M-£30M ?
  • Contender for opposition goal of the season for me.

That goal was a snapshot of our season.

A moment of sheer quality followed by us (Elk) desperately huffing and puffing to no avail to rectify things.

And then he goes to ground holding his face and feigning injury. Every bloody time!

As for Berbatov - He is one of Fergies 3 targets, and he'll get him.

    Spot on Len.

Put it this way, we got £18.5m for Carrick who only had 2 years left on his contract.
Berbatov has still got 4 years left so if Sir Alex and Jose want him then they really are going to have to spend big bucks.

I can understand why we sold Carrick although its taken us nearly 3/4 of this season to cope without him. If Levy and the board were to accept any bid for Berbatov then they will show absolutely no ambition into breaking into the top four and they will have a revolt on their hands.

  • The best news for the Spuds is that Berbatov seems to be a really genuine humble bloke so he won't neccesarily do a Spotty Parker and throw his toys out of the pram if they won't sell him. He obviously wants to play at the top level but I think he'll stay for at least another season and then the pressure will increase on the Spuds as his contract goes over the halfway point and his value starts to wane.

Fair play to Jol though for buying him, top class player and you do wonder why Utd bought Saha/Smith and Chelsea Kalou/Shev when this bloke makes all of them look like dog turds.
  • If Man Yoo come knocking he'll go

it would be hard for spurs to keep him if any of the top 4 went for him.
he is undoubtedly a world class player who deserves to play at the highest level for his club. unfortunately for spurs, that level is the champions league which i dont think they will be in, in the near future.
