Wearing gloves on a football pitch

2 players for us today wearing gloves sums it up.
More interested in how they look than really how they perform. It's unseasonably mild and absolutely no need at all i.e. just want to pose rather than knuckle down as a team and fight for a result.
So much for the collective team spirit. No impression to me there was any rousing half time team talk or finger pointing to get players to step up.
At least show the supporters you care and are giving 100%. KF isnt helping but really can't the senior players step up and support the inexperienced youth by stamping some authority on the team?

Fox wearing gold boots is the biggest eyebrow raiser.1

Well he did try and take them off at one point running to the dug out and back again !!!0

Lol fucking gloves, what about some of those players in the 90's that always wore long sleeves? pussies the lot of them
Plus have you seen Ba's ears? I'm not really in a position to comment on other people's appearance but by God are they trophy handles or what?! I doubt he cares how good he looks with gloves on
If this was Solly and Cousins, the thread would read
"Can't believe only two of our players have the intelligence to keep warm and wear gloves, they are leading lights in our team and set an example to the rest of them. It's not a fecking hardman contest its a game of football"8 -
Black boots, short sleeved shirts, no gloves - except the 'Keeper, or you can sit in the stand with the WAGS.0

Not on a par though with Diawara wearing gloves away at Chelsea on his debut in September when the temperature was 75 degrees3

Wasn't that a superstition/lucky talisman deal though? Still odd but more justifiable to me (who has far too many superstitions myself)shirty5 said:Not on a par though with Diawara wearing gloves away at Chelsea on his debut in September when the temperature was 75 degrees

Yup, Ba and Sarr wearing gloves really stood out. How the hell did Ba survive playing for Sunderland?

I tried to buy a pair of black boots recently, turns out they pretty much don't exist anymore - at least not if you want recentish models.1

Did people have such strong feelings about gloves before social media? Can't work out if people's concerns have been heightened or just highlighted. Personally I don't give a toss and don't know why people care.1

Unless this is one of the odd remnants of muscular Christianity, I don't understand the British obsessions with gloves (or sleeves or snoods) on a football pitch. These are professional athletes, it's not their job to look tough, it's their job to ensure their bodies are performing to the best of their abilities. If that means they can conserve energy in their extremities by wearing gloves, so be it.
Also, why does wearing gloves make them care about how they look?!?!?!
To me, whenever this comes up it seems to be an offshoot of, or seemingly related to, jingoism. "Bloody foreigns coming over here all soft and such like" type stuff. Those bloody French and Spaniards and Germans and South Americas poofing up our game. What have they ever won??? Oh...."3 -

I agree that wearing gloves as a 'fashion statement' is not on .. at least they weren't wearing snoods .. thing is there are a LOT more problems with our shallow and callow squad other than their sartorial choices .0
