Always seemed a bit weird to me, that having been instrumental in getting us promoted, he left the club before he could play for us in Div One. I also found it weird that we re-signed him in 1984 (for £50k) when we were absolutely skint and about to go out of business!

I'm sure I read somewhere that Lawrence tried to sign him a couple of years after we let him go following an appearance he made in a testimonial against Spurs. I think what scuppered it was the fact he'd received an insurance pay out after he got injured at Cambridge.

this .. who recalls his four goals against Notts County ... has a CAFC player scored four in a game since ? .. nowadays we struggle to find a four goals a season striker .. Fantastic player in his peak. Went to America and was voted most valuable player in the League, beating the likes of Pele and Franz Beckenbauer.
