  • Could go pear shaped soon though, we might see most of them "thrust" into the first team come February!!
  • I watched this spirited win by a team with a great captain who drove them on, leading by example and scoring the winning goal. No physical challenge was shirked, and the players all wanted the ball. I wish I'd gone to sleep for the rest of the day.
  • Under 18s were a pleasure to watch, Lapslie had an excellent game.

Any news of the team Dick, or do we wait for the OS to get around to it?

  • Who is running the U18s and U 21s now?

Thanks Dansk. Any idea if Chapple was replaced or do we just turn up with no clue of how the oppo will play?
  • Chapple was never replaced. A complete grey area that.

  • Chapple was the head scout but his main focus was player recruitment. Others scoured opposition.

Mark Stow, who was the academy scout, is acting (or interim) head scout.

There's been no news on what the plan is to replace Chapple but Stow was scout at Cardiff and Watford so while not an ideal situation it doesn't seem to be like getting a scout from a Belgian 3rd division side.

Phil Chapple going was still a big loss in my view not only for his knowledge and contacts but for what it says about Charlton's current set up.

Thanks for the heads up Henry. While having no knowledge of Stow, at least he doesn't seem to be Belgian. Any idea what version of Football Manager he uses?

    2008 I think : - )

But this little, rather poorly written and researched article gives you an idea of why he might fit in

Both the Under-18s and Under-16s won on Saturday.

Charlton Under-18s played their final match of the year on Saturday morning,‎ when they played host to Colchester United.‎

Charlton made numerous changes to the line up which figured last time out in the defeat to QPR, with regular starters Beeney, Yao, Bone, Bah and Anderson all returning to the starting eleven.‎

Prior to kick-off a minute's silence was observed impeccably by the whole of the academy, and Colchester United also, in memory of Academy coach, Steve Adams, who tragically passed away last week. The players and staff for the Under-18s also wore black armbands as a mark of respect.‎

Charlton came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead early on as a ball was whipped into the box. Sam Bone challenged with the keeper, but no foul was given and Daniel Bowry was on hand to stab the ball home.‎

The young Addicks would continue to dominate the game and Lapslie should have made it two when he found space in the box from a corner, but his header went agonisingly the wrong side of the post.‎

Diminutive striker, Terrique Anderson, then had a chance to get the all important second goal, but after he found himself one-on-one with the Colchester keeper, who made a remarkable save to deny Anderson.‎

Colchester came out in the second half more determined and knew they were lucky to only be a goal behind. A goal that was quickly wiped out when the Essex side were awarded a free-kick just outside the box and it was bent into the back of the net beating Jordan Beeney at his near post.

Both sides continued to press and create openings but Charlton's rearguard stood firm, withstanding anything the visitors could throw at them.‎

Then in the final quarter of the match the winning goal came from a Charlton set piece out wide. The ball was drilled in, and after an initial shot was blocked, it fell kindly for George Lapslie to fire the ball into the back of the net.‎

Charlton had the only major chance in the rest of the game when substitute defender, Romarno Simpson, somehow found himself free in the box, but his shot lacked accuracy and was well saved by the keeper.‎

Charlton saw out the game by keeping the ball in the corner and were happy at the full time whistle to have earned a hard fought 3 points.

The result means the Addicks Under-18s top the table going into the Christmas break. ‎
