MUSEUM BENEFACTOR

We are always needing new funds for the Museum as we strive to improve it and at present we are hopeful to raise enough cash to buy further display cabinets. We have the space to fit them in and certainly have material to fill them. It all takes time but happily a sizable windfall came our way last week thanks to a very generous bequest from the estate of recently deceased Charlton supporter Archie Starr.

Archie died last November at the age of 95, having lived his entire life in Charlton, except for the war years. His father was one of the supporters who helped to dig out the Valley and turn it into a football stadium after the First World War. That is a fantastic record of support from one family stretching back 100 years or so. I did not know Archie personally but wish I could have talked with him. There are not many supporters left who have personal memories of the club in the 20's or even 30's. Up to his death, Archie was a member of the Reminiscence Group who meet each week at the Museum and he must have enjoyed being there surrounded by so much history.

Anyway, it is a big thank you to Archie and his family. His donation will help us to make the Museum bigger and better. If you have yet to visit us, look in on matchday Saturdays 11.00 to 1.00 and RIP Archie Starr.
