Car fault

Please feel free to delete this thread but I need some advice..

Everytime I brake when the headlights are on, one of the tail lights goes off and the other shines brighter..

Any car geniuses on here?

    I'm guessing a Ford?
  • Sounds like an earthing issue, how old's the car?

    Correct...
  • Sounds like an earthing issue, how old's the car?

    58 plate.

  • Could just be a bad bulb, or the wrong bulb. Otherwise a bad earth as others have suggested.
  • Ford wiring looms/earthing are not the work of geniuses.
I seem to recall some had a recall. Might be worth checking that for your model before paying for anything?
  • Fuses
  • You shouldn't make light of this fault. You need someone bright to get it sorted for you.
  • Corroded earth point/s. probably in the rear light clusters. Nothing to do with fuses.

What you mean a sort of bright spark you mean Brendan.

    Dodgy earth

Never been the same since those asteroids wiped out the dinosaurs plus a bit of volcanic activity apparantly

Edit; talking of dinosaurs I understand Katrien doesn't love me and my ilk anymore :-(
  • Don't drive at night
  • Possibly water getting into the lights and mucking up the connections. Lots of French cars seem to suffer from this too.
  • Loads of people drive about with this issue. Sometimes the indicator flashes and the tail lights flash as well. Bizzare
  • Sorted. Only took month and a half :)

On the way back from beating QPR in a cup game, my mk1 escort wiring loom caught fire as I joined the M25. Fortunately it blew itself out before it made it to the interior of the car, but I still had to push it across three lanes of traffic without dying.

  • I think all this stuff about wiring is way off the mark. Your car is merely possessed. Get it exorcised by a priest and you'll be fine.

Aah! Christine the '58 Plymouth Fury. Good movie.
