In his first couple of Tests which were away to India in 2006 he opened but, for the two home series that year against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, he dropped to 3 to allow Trescothick to return to partner Strauss. Cook then returned to open for the away Ashes series at the back end of that year and has been there ever since.Todds_right_hook said:

I'm really pleased for Cook. I've always backed him and thought that a batsman with so many runs in the past, would surely come good again.2
