Relegation Battle - maybe we need one

edited October 2006 in General Charlton
Not good for the ole ticker admitedly BUT maybe it is something that will galvanise us fans again. Let's face it we have had some bloody good atmosphere's down the Valley - even in the PL.

Maybe a bit of adversity will bring it back - as long as we don't go down of course.

Or am I being daft.

  • I agree Arf. Normally I would not be bothered with Fulham away on TV on a Monday. But already it is clear that the team needs our support more than ever and I will be there in full voice.
  • The ones we had at Sellout were memorable, remember Chelsea Away on the Final Day when steve Wicks knocked out Leaburn & Paul Millers deflected goal saved us & doomed them?
  • Not daft at all.

I've hinted as much in a couple of articles. I feel where the team has drifted over the last couple of years, so has our support.

So here we are now, already early in the season, yet we're in a bad place we haven't been for the last few years and some people are starting to re-assess all things Charlton.

I've had loads of emails and messages on here saying exactly the same as 1905 above. The team needs a lift, and we're gonna try to and provide it. If it doesn't work out, we can say we've done our bit.

Make no mistake, we've already sold a lot more Fulham tickets 12 days before the game than we would of took for the game, just because a few of us have took the bull by the horns and try and raise a bit of a rally.

The people who care are still there, we just need a bit of encouragement at times. If the fans stay behind the club, and we end up going on a decent run, everyone will benefit from it.
  • oh good.

I fancy a trip to the cottage.

Might bring my boy along as well.
  • Definitely agree - midtable security and the poor football under Curbs were the two main reasons for the poor atmosphere in the last 18 months
  • I'm all over Fulham. Me and a couple of other fellas are taking the half day from work and are gonna make a proper day of it. Apologies in advance to anyone who knows me for any offence caused!
  • Defintely.
As I said before, Dowie has got the right idea - he is going for the end of season bus tour that Curbs used to moan about never getting!
  • Just looking at some random old threads.
Personally I didnt want a relegation battle !!!
  • well thats ok you didnt get a religation battle-- we gave in, in no way was it ever any sort of battle or fight.
  • I enjoyed boring mid table Premiership football.

It is depressing that I am unlikely to see my team in the top tier of English football again in my lifetime.

Thanks Curbs for some happy footballing memories of MY team at The Valley taking on the best of English football and sometimes (quite often in fact) coming out on top.

I've seen third division football at The Valley before. I'd hoped i wouldn't have to see it again.

I don't get to see many games, but the quality in the side made it very watchable even if we were never going to get far above (boring) mid-table. I remember 3rd division football. It's OK when you win, but not much fun once it gets scrappy.
