  • Terry Naylor, a great player for us who broke his leg, I think against west ham in a psf.

    Whaat??
  • Matt Holmes... Kevin Muscat was a right bastard for that tackle

Holmes would have turned into a bit of a Charlton hero in my opinion. In the little we saw he was a cracking signing.
  • Carl Tiler
  • John Pender played great for 40 odd games then got injured at plough lane ,and only played afew games after that.
Chris WHYTE from LEEDS was also useful until his injury.Geoff Scott got done at Chelsea early 80s.
Now the boot was on the other foot re Simon Webster going to West-Ham.
All centrebacks something in the water maybe.
  • Simon walton
  • Yassin got crocked early in his time at ours and was never the same after that I know a lot on here seem to dislike him but he had the potential to be quality Just my opnion

It was, was my favourite player at the time, don't think he played a game after that.

We lost 2-1 to Stoke in front of the cameras and he looked one of our best players, sadly got injured soon after and like you say was never the same

He was decent before that assault on him up at Stoke.

    That's a great shout.

I'll add Hasselbaink to the list as well. He was getting on a bit but thought he'd still do a job for us. Seemed to be his attitude more than ability though.

Am sorry... I know I lasted only one season but I was this club's first ever £1m player and it would be nice if people could get my name right (Sob!)

He was very injury prone, on top of that it didn't help that he got done by an atrocious challenge by Fabregas at The Valley. Apart from that he was like Rowett, quiet good when he could get on the pitch but it didn't happen often enough.

Had high hopes, but ultimately he was pretty shite
  • fair enough this is a Former Charlton players who arrived with high hopes but hardly ever played (due to injury, etc.) thread.

I never thought Varney was shite, He was like a good version of Si Churchinho he was a hard worker who never looked overly likely to score but got some assists.

68 goals in 345 games. Averaging about 8 a season....that's about twice as many as (non-goalscorer) paddy Powell scored in his spells at Charlton (35 in 358 games).
