Proves my point that Lyth hasn't got a clue where his stumps are. What sort of review was that?!? He was absolutely plumb. That's the end of him for this series.

He deserved his chance and he's blown it. Onto the next one. Alex Hales.
The fact that they have bounced back shows that the team does have character.
I still expect to see a Tweet from KP telling us how silly it is that he is on a beach when he could have been in the side helping us to an innings and 800 run win.
When he was spraying the ball around some 5 years ago, The Barmy Army created a song to the tune of 'i wanna go home' which goes something like 'he bowls to the left, he bowls to the right, oh Mitchell Johnson , his bowling is shite' - its just rolled on from there
Both Finn and Anderson were brilliant but you've got to give some credit to Bell.
A lot of people were calling for him to be dropped with Ballance before the test. Showed his class in moving up to three, scoring half centuries in both innings and confidently leading the (albeit small) fourth innings assault. They say form is temporary, Bell showed that class is permanent!

Those people who wanted Bell dropped need to look at themselves - the guy is a class act.
Hopefully Wood will be fit... Glad Finn stepped right up. Jimmy is different class though. I still cant decide if this series is about great bowling or shit batting. We've both been guilty of both.

At the beginning of the series, i thought we had a better batting unit than them and vice-versa in the bowling, yet we have outbowled them in Test 1 and 3 - and probably tbh outplayed them in those tests too.

I think that's right.
Even when we whooped the Aussies by three innings wins in 2010-2011, we still got humped in one test. Let's hope that was the Lord's test anomaly.
Jimmy's not going to last forever. It's good that players like Wood and Finn get the chance to experience leading the attack in an ashes test. I'm looking forward to seeing how our attack responds.

We are really struggling in the backup bowling department.
I think we're really struggling in the backup batting department too. Openers to replace Lyth aren't exactly jumping off the page.
I'm not sure we are lacking in young batting talent about to bridge the gap between county and test match - such as Hales,Taylor,Billings - but agree we dont have an obvious replacement for Lyth at moment
There was speculation of Tom Westley from Essex opening. I know he scored a ton against the Aussies in a warm up, but he doesn't normally open in first class games and I'm not sure he's the answer either. I vote for hales, though I suspect he'll go the way of Compton, lyth, carberry et al

they wont go for untried during the Ashes, first time ive ever heard Westley as a possible - Carberry might be a good shout though - played in last Ashes, and didnt do badly in my opinion. Else, consideration might be given to moving Moeen back to opener.

Another momentum swing, lets hope the Aussies fall to pieces now...
Looking forward to CE's comments.
