Sporting nicknames

Following on from a comment on another thread re nicknames, what are your best/favourite sporting nicknames?

I would like to put forward:

Whispering Death - Michael Holding.

Nobody - John Eales (as in Nobody's Perfect)

  • I used to play cricket with a guy, who we nicknamed Whispering Jeff
  • One Size - Fitz Hall
  • I always liked Matthew "Steamy" Windows.

    And, of course Justin Edinburgh was known as Musselburgh.

  • My brother has a wart on his ear, so we call him Sir Walt Ear Raleigh.

    *but he doesn't play sport, so I guess it doesn't count.......
  • The late Kent & England cricketer Graham Dilley was nicknamed Picca.

  • Simon Grayson (Preston) is referred to as Larry by a lot of folk in football.

  • I like Richard Moneys - Dickie Dosh
  • Sean Dyche - Exhaust Pipe

    I recall as a kid, my dad & his mates used to call him a "tiller girl".

    Has always been my personal favourite. I've also heard people refer to Kevin Pietersen as 'figjam' although I'm sure that nickname was originally given to Phil Mickelson
  • Neil Pointon the old Everton and Man City player was nicknamed Dissa if I remember rightly.
