I'd guess a few of you are muttering about another RIP for someone you've never heard of, like that matters.
Only you have, even if you didnt know his name. If you are are old enough to remember the 1974 world cup, Zaire and that free kick then you know who I mean.
He died yesterday aged 66 after a long illness.

Why did he do it?0

I think he thought it was his free kick. Remember Eric Morecambe being a guest on one TV channel and being in fits of laughter when he giving his views on the game.0

There was a brilliant Phoenix from the flames on fantasy football that went someway to explaining this.ForeverAddickted said:Why did he do it?

One way to answer that is with a question. Can you name any of his team mates?ForeverAddickted said:Why did he do it?

To be fair, before today not many people would've been able to name him either.Chizz said:

Aah! One of the great World Cup moments.
Zaire had never qualified for a World Cup - I always believed the tension, the excitement and the occasion got to him and he momentarily lost it.

I think it was because the ref blew his whistle, so he believed "game on".ForeverAddickted said:Why did he do it?

The reason he gave was because the government had reneged on their promise to pay the players their bonuses, so he staged a one man protest0
