Bolton v Charlton - Post match views

1-1 rears it's head for the umpteenth time this season. Disappointing to see a lead pegged back late, however another defeat avoidance on the road.

  • 61 points is the target
  • Son was at the game didnt sound inspiring as he text me through most of it. But another point gained but now behind the piggies who are shite.
  • Always disappointing to draw once you've been in the lead but a point away is decent.
  • If we don't beat Leeds we'll go a month without winning a match, which is a real shame given the brilliant form we were in pre international beak.

cant see why a couple of youth players not given 10 mins with nothing to play for.

Completely agree. Unless some players we expect to leave don't!
  • One reason being U21s played this afternoon drawing 1 - 1 with Brentford. Also Ansah, Piggy etc away on loan.
  • When GL came in I remember him saying that he only has a winning habit, or something along those lines.

Well I thought he meant win football matches, instead it seems to be he wants to win records.

This particular record being the most amount of 1-1's in a season for Charlton!

The season is going out in a dull, binary fuelled, scum-escaping, whimper ...

A shame after the excitement before the international break.

  • the binary bores are back

our season ended when we lost to the scum

    52% 7th-12th ..... 48% 13th-21st

    100% fecked off with wigwam

  • Please can we just finish above Forest and Sheffield Wednesday. Especially the latter
  • Our work this season is essentially done but I'd never turn my nose up at a point at Bolton or, indeed, at Wednesday.

Although the latter beat Brentford tonight, their last two aways are at Bournemouth and Watford and I don't see them getting anything there. A win on Saturday against Leeds and it'll very probably be a top half finish, which most of us (certainly me) would have been extremely pleased with last summer.
  • Tbf, from the comments I heard on here and on other places, I can see why Guy brought off Wattokele, didn't seem to be their best day. This game certainly had a Meh feeling about it that's for sure. For me, one win out of the last three will be a good end to the year, would love fuck up Bournemouth's day if at all possible. Overall a fair result, hopefully the last 3 are a little more exciting

  • I've got a bet with a Norwich mate on who will finish higher with a 12 place handicap. I was 5-6 pints up a few weeks ago and now it's not looking great. Thanks Roland...

  • Season's over so it is just a parade to the end. I was hoping for some excitement on Saturday but not holding my breath to be honest. As for Church well he seems a good lad but honestly why are we bothering he just ain't up to it.
  • The aim must always to win matches and even if players are leaving if they are considered good enough they should play. when Luzon arrived we were staring relegation in the face so lot be in this position is to be celebrated. I agree that the season has yielded too many draws but we now have some really good players, just not enough of them. hopefully our owner will now realise that with some investment promotion next season is not impossible
  • I was in two minds about going last night after watching a distinctly end-of-season performance at Sheffield, but, in the end, I was pleased I went. We were back to battling hard and, in the first half, combined this with some good passing football. In the second half, we continued to fight, but struggled to retain possession. Some disappointment that we didn’t hold on for the win, but a draw was fair.

The excellent surface certainly helped our two central mid-fielders. Cousins played well, looking after the ball better than I’ve seen before. Buyens is very good at making himself available to help us retain possession, but players evade his tackles with ease.

I was troubled by Watt. I had read an article in which he said he was 70-80% fit, and he certainly looked no more than that. I noticed in the warm-up there were some stretches that he didn’t do – does he have an injury? On a separate point, I realise that his strength is in running at defenders with the ball, but there are times when he would do better to look up and choose another option.

I have been thinking a bit about the central defenders. Based on recent selections, the pecking order now seems to be Johnson and Gomez, followed in order by Diarra, TBH, Lennon and finally Bikey. I can understand most of this, but am surprised that TBH is (if I’m right) ranked fourth. Is this based on ability or contractual situation?

On a tactical point I noticed that Bolton played with their no 20 floating around between our two lines of four and I wondered why we didn’t seem to counter this. I also noticed that in the second half both our full backs were positioned much closer to the centre backs than I’ve seen before. After the game I wondered whether these two points were connected, ie did we shore up the centre with the full backs to deal with the extra main behind their strikers? Someone with more tactical knowledge than I have might have a view.

Finally a word on JBG. Technically he’s a joy to watch, a level above anyone else we have, but will we see him next season?
  • One day, the lesson will be learned.

Charlton can not defend a single goal lead with 20 minutes to play.

Guy Luzon, write that out a hundred times and hand it in before the Leeds game.
  • Was at the game. Don't think there was too much to read in to. End of season game with two teams with not a lot to play for. Can't complain with the point but felt we definitely lost our threat at 1 up when Igor and Watt came off (not that they looked particularly sharp). I'm looking forward to seeing them both fresh and raring to go next season as they both look tired. Bolton's subs on the other hand, seemed to lift them. The atmosphere was dead until they brought on Davies, which really seemed to give the fans a boost and I think Bolton's best spell came at around that time.

I really believe we have the makings of a strong squad if we can keep our key players. Would love to be able to extend Bulot's stay.

My favourite jeans ripped (on the crotch ) when getting into my friends car at Charlton at 3am (I hate Topman!). Other than that, quite an enjoyable trip and a decent point.
  • as said, disappointing once more to concede a late goal but in this division any result from an away game is always a point that's been well fought for .. this squad is - or perhaps already has - settling down nicely. Let's hope that the majority are still here next season
  • Why sub our two decent strikers for a bloke with no future here?

Did the same at Millwall and lost the game on the back of the decision.

As above, I would rather see some kids on the bench, even young ones of 17/18 above likes of Church as it would give them invaluable experience and a massive buzz going into the summer. I have nothing against Church but if he is not being retained it is mad to keep him in the squad when there is nothing left to play for.

Were you there?.... Tony Watt was completely knackered, I felt if left on could have resulted in him being badly injured. Igor has been running on empty for weeks as for Millwall reason we lost was Chris Solly going off, not the substitutions.
    Just my opinion of course.

Next two fixtures look very good draws it has to be said ....

Careful Colin, that was not as positive as you usually are about the new regime. You will be saying next that Roland is not the Messiah.

  • 18th draw of the season, 12th 1-1...
