Endless summers as a child spent listening and watching him on the bbc falling in love with cricket

29 years ago this weekend I saw Richie Benaud in the most unlikely of places, wandering around Augusta on the last day of the US Masters, of course totally unrecognised by anyone else in the crowd.

So sad. Like others, grew up listening to his commentary pretty much, through the 80s and 90s. RIP Richie0

The less is more commentator, the current Sky mob doing cricket could learn a thing or three.0

He will be remembered of course for his commentary but let's not forget how good a player he had been - a world class all-rounder.
"Gatting has absolutely no idea what has happened to it. Still doesn't know!"

RIP Richie.
Him along with Johnners were my all time favourite commentators.
Those two would make you feel part of the game no matter how dull some games were.
True craftsmanship1 -
RIP Richie a true master.

The best ever commentator in any sport for me. Many happy days spent glued to the TV with him talking you through it.
"McGraths gone for two, only 98 runs short of his century"
RIP a great man.6 -
Sad sad news. For me the greatest sports commentator ever. One of the few who could do the job without resorting to clichés. RIP1
