Our managers best signings.

edited April 2015 in General Charlton
You can only choose one player for each manager. I'm not old enough for the Lennie era, even if I know of his recruits, I won't comment on players I have not seen live. Include older managers to what I have produced in your list if you want. (May have been done a thousand times already).

Curbs - Claus Jensen (Darren bent a close 2nd)

Dowie - Andy Reid

Pardew - Nick Bailey

Parky - Johnnie Jackson

Chris Powell - Rhoys Wiggins (only him and Wilson still left in our current squad, that Powell signed. Correct me if I'm wrong)

Riga - I don't think he signed anyone apart from a lame striker that pitched in with a few goals the season before. Help me out here.

Peeters - JBG

Luzon - Diarra!

Tony watt was here before luzon

    Correct.

  • The Curbs list is long. Kinsella, Mendonca, Andy Hunt, Graham Stuart, Powell, Costa, Fish and Bartlett to name a but a few. I loved Jensen but Super Clive for me, followed by Kinsella.
  • I'd have gone for:
    Curbs - Kinsella
    and
    Powell - Kermorgant
...off the top of my head, anyway.
  • For Powell it's got to be Yann, he was the difference between us competing for promotion and winning the league comfortably. Don't think many clubs would have taken a chance on him after he struggled at Leicester and missed that penalty in the play-offs.
  • Only 1 player per manager. That's the tricky part.

Well for curbs and Powell it is.
  • Curbs - kinsella...best signing by a charltonlife manager in my time...no contest

  • Did Les Reed sign anyone...?

He didn't sign anybody. But I'm sure he brought Zheng Zhi to the club on trial.
  • Curbs - Bent (not Marcus)

    Dowie - Andy Reid

    Pardew - Nicky Bailey

Parky - Jacko (I was a big fan of Deon Burton though)

Chris Powell - Got to be Kermorgant

    Riga - n/a

    Peeters - n/a

    Luzon - n/a

  • Some of the early Curbs signings to get us challenging for the PL were his best. I would put Johnny Robinson in that category.
  • It's Mendonca for Curbs. His signing Transformed us from mid table regulars to a premier league side
  • Danny Mills should be on the shortlist for Curb"s best signing
  • Lennie - The head says someone like Bob Bolder, but the heart says Shirtliff for those 2 goals, without which we might not even have a club!
Curbs - Super Clive, the guy who got us promoted which made a massive difference to our history
Dowie - Andy Reid (or Carson on loan)
    Les Reed -
Pardew - Nicky Bailey (just about the only signing from his time we made a profit on!)
    Parky - Jacko
    Powell - Kermorgant or BWP
    Riga -
Peeters - JBG (if it was him who signed him!)
    Luzon - Diarra
  • Curbs - Clive Mendonca

    Dowie - Andy Reid

Pardew - Alex Song if loan signings count too?

    Parky - Johnnie Jackson

    Chris Powell - Yann Kermorgant

    Riga - n/a

    Peeters - JBG

    Luzon - Allou Diarra

The network (RD) - Tony Watt
  • Who signed Dean Kiely ? Curbs surely .Deano has to get a mention in a list of candidates despite his kicking
  • Considering "The network (RD)" is probably too much of an influence to give the managers working under it, credit for the player recruitment.

Could disregard peeters for player signings.

Also dowie as we had that general manager.

As much as I'd like to praise powelly for giving the club some anil koc. It was given to him.

Pardew - Weaver, McLeod, Soares, Andy Gray,

    Parky - Tresor Kandol

    Powell - Gower

    I loved them all

    Curbs - Tom Hovi?
  • Masterstroke from Curbs.
Mills and Youds when everybody was after a striker.
  • Interesting thread and tough to answer and tomorrow's answers are likely to differ from today's.

    Andy Nelson - Dick Tydeman

    Mike Bailey -

    Alan Mullery - Allan Simonsen

    Ken Craggs -

My brain hurts so cannot think re Bailey and Craggs just now.
  • I forgot Francis Jeffers. He must rank as one of Curb's best signings. For two games anyway.

    Well done!

Wasn't sure whether he was early Lennie or not.

True. I don't go back as far as Bolder but the keepers between him and Deano were pony ( other than the few games of Royce)
