  • I'm told it’s about formalising his role as an advisor to the board and Gavin Carter in particular as Steve has the football background that GC doesn't

The role is overseeing and developing relationships with youth academies, grassroots clubs and partner orgs (ie Mount Pleasant) .

Browny will still do the media work, ex Players and Advisory Board.
So that suggests it's more about the younger age groups in the academy, aside from any partnerships with other clubs such as Mount Pleasant? Doesn't sound like it's related to coaching or a loan manager role.
  • This board finds roles for.much-respected former players, rather than (for example) the owner's son
Still makes me cringe that Sandgaard tried to justify employing his son as head of recruitment by saying he once had trials at QPR (I think it was them). It's the sort of lies you hear from people when playing in a 5-a-side league.
  • Sorry are we all forgetting his hard shot? We all know that qualifies you to work at a football club

I had trials for Charlton - I left early though as they wouldn't stop laughing.
    Thank f*ck for rugby.

Not as it was explained to me.

  • Great news, he won’t let us down.

Whatever his role is, it’s a good move - talks a lot of sense and knows what it is to be an apprentice at Charlton - the more good Charlton people in the building, the better

Joking aside, love Brownie, and fully agree with your post
  • As others have said.
He never let us down on the pitch.
A good character, a real asset to have on the staff on our journey to improve.

Wasn't it a very hard shot?
    Makes a lot of difference
  • Not quite sure what the purpose of the role is but good on him and glad we have Charlton people involved all through the club. Same for Gavin Carter, he’s not one of the money men but obviously has an understanding of Charlton Athletic and the people that matter trust and listen to him.
  • I still remember his contribution in the play off final as reported in the Guardian.

Charlton were now committing players forward with abandon. Sensing the kill, Sunderland broke with Steve Brown the only covering defender. Brown suddenly turned into Bobby Moore. An all-or-nothing tackle and a moment of vision released Jones, who fired a missile across the six-yard box. In one movement Mendonca somehow killed it, swivelled and planted a volley past Pérez. Delirium? Yes.
Now I’m going to have to watch that Super Clive hat-trick. Again.

I had a trial in Charlton, well Woolwich technically.

Was very glad they didnt want me and released me at the end of the trial.

Something similar happened to me in Bexleyheath, not sure about the strength of their team at the time.
And I got fined more than 2 weeks wages.

We know he has great football knowledge
We know he is a good person
We know he has Charlton at heart
We know he is a grafter
    What a great appointment.
Charlton are at their best with people like Steve Brown on the payroll

  • Great news !
Remember when he was sent off and all the merchandise booklets descended down from the Covered End !

Apart from mine……..it had a particularly nice photo of my fav player in it.
I have apologised to him personally since & I did burn the photo when the player turned into Judas 😜🤣🤣
  • It's mind blowing to consider the amount of employees involved in running this club.

(According to AI) A recent LinkedIn post by Ed Warrick in May 2025 stated that around 200 people work full-time for both Charlton Athletic Football Club and Charlton Athletic Women's Football Club, with another 150 working directly part-time.

Quite a commitment by the owners.
