When Gomez dived in on Vaughan and missed the ball, yet recovered brilliantly via a superb tackle, it was nice to see the striker offer him a sporting acknowledgement.
I was expecting Vaughan to cause problems yesterday when I realised he was up against Gomez - no slight on Joe but a big, quick and experienced centre forward really should have done much more than he ended up doing, which amounted to falling over a lot and whinging for the most part.
I was told 3 years ago by one of the dad's of a CAFC development player that Joe Gomez was the best talent in the Academy, when you consider Joe was only 14 then and Harriott, cousins, Fox, Pigott, and Poyet were ahead of him in age and matches, that was quite a statement. The bottom line is class on the ball, plus calmness and bright between the ears has helped young Joe. He just glides over the ground.
