Morbid but

edited April 2007 in General Charlton
following the sad news of Alan Ball's death it suddenly struck me how many sports stars fail to make their three score years and ten.

Off the top of my head from football, Alan Ball, George Best, Jimmy Johnstone, Peter Osgood, Davie Cooper, Ray Kennedy, Ian Hutchinson, I could go on.

This phenomenon is not exclusive to football either. I could list cricketers and rugby players who have died comparitively young.

I suppose my question is whether sport is reflecting life in general or are sportsmen predisposed to die earlier?

Could it be that having achieved a lot at a young age they feel nothing is left and thus find it hard coping with getting older?
