Just to say that all the programmes and some wonderful other pieces were dropped off at the Museum today but thanks for all the kind offers of help. I may well ask again.
Pat, the lady donating the programmes, VOTV and other bits, reads CL so I will let her tell the story if she wants to but we're very grateful and proud to bring home the collection.
Firstly I would like to congratulate all the people involved in setting up the Charlton museum. What a fantastic place to visit and re-live Charlton memories. Today I returned to the Valley for the first time since my husbands death. Trust me it wasn't easy. So many memories. I do miss not attending games but just don't want to be there without my other half. The reason for my visit was to make a donation of my late husbands programme collection. John had supported Charlton for over 50 years and had amassed the collection over about 35 years, along with voice of the valley magazines and newspaper articles from 1992 and 1998. John lived for Charlton. We met in the covered end in the 1970's. We married during the close season so as not to miss a game. He followed Charlton to Selhurst Park and Upton Park. He was very quick to offer his services when called upon to help clear the Valley. He couldn't wait for his team to "Come home". Our summer holiday in 1992 was spent in Floyd road watching flood lights being erected. He only missed a handful of games in all his years as a supporter. Sadly John passed away last August. I am grateful to the Museum for accepting the programmes and other bits as I wanted them to go to a good home, be appreciated and looked after- just as John had done. I'm sure John would be pleased knowing his collection has "Come home". Thank you and good luck to all involved with the museum. Keep up the good work.
Great to read you and John's heartwarming story @Muzzy. Maybe that's not quite the right way to put it, given the circumstances, but I think you know what I mean!
@muzzy - this was one of the reasons why the museum was set up, so future generations of people can look, touch, read and see cherished items, donated by fans for years to come.
I am sure that your late husband is looking down with pride knowing that his collection is now at 'home'
I am also glad that you shared your story with us too - thanks
Lovely to meet you today Pat and the programs are much appreciated, my son is complaining of back ache from lifting them! As you said earlier they have come home now and the kettle is always on if you want to pop in any Friday. Clive
Lovely to hear your story Muzzy. John must be so proud his collection has a new home, and supporters of the future will enjoy seeing everything, I'm sure. Thanks for donating it. So great we have this wonderful museum to put things on display.

Thanks
Had one offer of a weekend pick up but was hoping there was someone who could do it Mon to Fri.
I spoke to the lady involved and she say she may have a lift on Friday but if not I'll come back to you to see if Ian can step in.
