2 ounces of plastic with a hole in the middle. Man.
They neither make, nor name albums like this any more. According to my grandad.
See ( some of what's left of) them at The Half Moon on 22nd Feb.
  • The best album released in 1969 was Abbey Road.

I hadn't worked my way that far down the list... Scott 4 is a masterpiece. In those days, albums came thick and fast
  • Jefferson Airplane and the Doors around that year;

what did Traffic put out then?

Think the first Argent album was 69 too

    Chicago Transit Authority too,

Creedence put out something like four albums in twelve months...

Was going to mention Everybody knows This Is Nowhere by Neil Young & Crazy Horse but you beat me to it. Love that album. Saw Neil last year and he's still an incredible live performer.
  • Are there any Captain Beefheart fans here? I'm working my way towards Trout Mask Replica which was released in '69. It's possibly the least accessible album I've ever heard (I love Safe as Milk and The Splotlight Kid) and according to my wife's uncle it takes about three or four listens before you can start making any sense of it at all, but it is often regarded as a true masterpiece.
  • Going through the best of 1969 list has nicely eased the nerves ahead of tonight's nailbiter. Some tremendous suggestions everyone, to which I would add these that i bought/swapped back then...:

John Mayall - Turning Point (His first without a guitarist!)
Manfred Mann's Chapter Three - Same (Recommended - a BIG departure from their previous work)
Family - Family Entertainment (The best ever band from Leicester?)
David Ackles - Subway To The Country (If you like Leonard Cohen, Tim Buckley)
Moondog - Same (Categorise him at your peril...)
Love - Out Here (Not their best, but a must nevertheless)
Fairport Convention - Liege and Lief (A MUST own and far from the standard Liege)
Mott The Hoople - Same ('nuff said!)
    Townes Van Zandt - Same
Townes Van Zandt - Our Mother The Mountain (Own EVERYTHING by him!)
Blodwyn Pig - Ahead Rings Out (Arty Brit-Blues Rock with a jazzier edge)
Third Ear Band - Alchemy (Way out there...)
Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails (Why weren't they bigger?)
Mississippi Fred McDowell - I Do Not Play No Rock And Roll (Hear the title track and marvel...)
Terry Reid - Same (So unlucky, should have been big...)
Easy Rider - O S/T (It changed lives...)
Keef Hartley Band - Halfbreed (The Battle of NW6 was my fave but this is still worth a listen)
Johnny Winter - Second Winter (Wonderful, plus was this the only 3 sided double album ever?)
    ...finishing my list VERY strongly,
The Flying Burrito Bothers - Gilded Palace Of Sin

I thought that was 1970 otherwise I would have included it also - but you are correct it was 69.

In my opinion (and a lot of others) the greatest folk/rock album ever made.
  • At San Quentin - Johnny Cash
Retrospective - Buffalo Springfield (Googled this one)
  • No mentions for Blind Faith? I thought it was a terrific album, but can imagine that it divides opinion.
