Not sure done himself many favours today , poor team selection. and tactics ...... would not surprise if he gets moved on with new coaching staff coming in.
Perhaps Luzon told Damian not to start Watt. Anybody know if Luzon attended the game?
I firmly believe that Luzon picked that team yesterday and the tactics employed were as per his instruction. Matthew and Roberts were just covering the role in name only. Luzon escapes any criticism for now due the convenient Visa cock up. I wonder what load of old pony is going to come out of the club this week.
As others have said already, we don't even know who picked the team yesterday or, in fact the formation/tactics.
Neither do we know how much Damian was in agreement with Bob's methods at SL ....Maybe he was totally at odds with the former manager's ideas & instructions.
But I believe we DO know how loyal our longer serving players will be to him after working alongside him and SCP/AD and I would like to think the newer recruits would have learned to respect him by now.
As MIA stated, Damian (and Ben to a lesser degree) were on a hiding to nothing yesterday but looked as though they had fired up the team when the first whistle was blown..
Alas, a revitalised Watford , following the previous week's defeat, were unstoppable & the rest is history.
I sincerely hope that GL IS the man to turn things around but he has to hit the ground running.
Who better to have as a running mate than someone who knows the players so well and will lend some much needed continuity ?

Damian Matthew is well respected and an obvious asset to this club.

Therefore, we can expect him to be turfed out with the rest of them!

Step forward Damian Matthew.
From reading his comments on the OS and elsewhere, I feel he is both setting himself up for a fall and also calling out GL as well. He said the side was set up for the first half as per GL's wishes, unless I've misconstrued the situation and that didn't work, so what were we, 3-0 down at half time and 2-0 down in the second half. Kudos to Damian really.
We need to get a few things straight about Damian Matthew. For a start he is almost the last link us fans have with the kind of Charlton that we all care about. He is heart and soul a Charlton man with a deep love for the club, the kind of love and respect for the things we all hold dear and which we believe make us special. I know for a fact that he has been solicited and given offers by other clubs including Premiership clubs but has chosen to stay with us because of what he feels about us.
Now, imagine how he must have felt when last Monday he believed that along with Ben Roberts he was going to take over and prepare the team for the game v Watford, only to be told by the end of the day that Guy Luzon (the one Israeli sources had told us a week before would be taking over) had in fact been (surprise surprise) appointed and that Damian and Ben were no longer in charge for the next game. So Luzon took over and trained the team and picked the team right up until the end of Friday when the farce about the work permit eliminated him and Damian and Ben were thrown in to the fray again. They were mere figureheads on the Saturday to allow idiots like Colin1961 to throw mud at them for a situation which was none of their doing. Thankfully most sensible posters on here have recognised that Damian and Ben cannot be held responsible and that only Guy Luzon, Katrien Meire and Roland Duchatelet should be held to account for what happened in the debacle on Saturday afternoon.
Instead of sniping at him, we should be grateful that a real Charlton man is still with us - a man who has been associated with all the good things that have happened recently: the promotion year, the year we finished 9th, the year we turned things round and escaped relegation, let alone all the great young players he bought through when he was working with the Academy. I just pray that the club treats him properly and that we can count on him and Ben staying and keep a little part of the real Charlton spirit alive. If not, there are clubs out there who are willing and anxious for his services.
I thought the team selection and positions was close to what I would have done, and was encouraged when I saw it. Seemed ok for about ten minutes, then just fell apart but I can only assume this was due to the players not being interested in putting in a shift. Wouldn't blame Damian or Luzon for that abject showing, that was down to the players.
Surely it was down to RD? Definitely not the previous regime.
