Barely a news story. Shame he had to turn into a religious nutcase though as he came across well on TV. He used to visit my secondary school every year at some event.
More importantly, towards the bottom of the article under the heading "FOOTBALLER GAVIN PEACOCK AMASSED MORE THAN 500 LEAGUE APPEARANCES", the Daily Mail has provided an extensive summary of his playing career but failed to mention his 5 games on loan with Charlton in 2001 - yet more evidence of the media conspiracy against us.
He used to go to church with a family friend. I remember he went a long to the pub with my dad and his mates. Match reports were given from Amateur Football Combination 1 South, 4 South and 10 South before Gavin gave his view on the Arsenal v Charlton game. He also once joined us for Sunday lunch and my dad and his mate had a little pop at him about having never quite managed to "win the cup" after they'd just won the London Old Boys Olympian Cup.
I remember he was always a religious man but they've obviously become more devout with time, and I remember him moving to Canada become closer to his religion. Each to their own views, although as with most people who take religious scriptures too literally he's clearly somewhat distributional.
I remember bumping into Gavin years ago at Erith park, he was using tge running track, when he was playing for Chelsea. We had a good chat about his old man Etc, the lads/mates I was at the park with wanted me to get his autograph (one of them is an ex AFC Wimbledon striker). Gavin seemed really friendly and down to earth, one of the nice guys. It's s Shame that with his finding of faith (which can be a wonderful thing) he has adopted some unorthodox views.
Not really bonkers, is he? He's just saying what it says in the bible, “Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.” (Ephesians 5:22). There's the problem.

More reflection of Charltons current anti Christian stance - Loaning out Pope and Church.

You can only hope that one day he snaps out of it, but the odds are slim.
Religious bloke with just two children? Could have been a Freudian slip.
