Cousins on the left - has it been a success?

  • Were you there saturday ???

He was diving into tackles, right, left and centre.

He reminds me of a young Jordon Henderson, both the good and the bad parts of his game.
  • And decent in the air...
  • Its worth remembering JC started out as a right back. His primary art throughout youth level was defending.

I think LW is a position which doesn't maximise his strengths and exposes some of the weaker aspects such as crossing and beating a defender down the line when that defender is set. Those dribbles he can't do but he can break past 3 or 4 players in broken midfield play because he is hard to knock off the ball.

My only criticism of him was that he never used to take a shot on. This seems to be changing and he certainly can finish from distance.

Strong running style and combatitive yet controlled tackling are the stand outs in a game. The other element is the fact that he doesn't have one single "donkey" element to his game, there is nothing particularly weak you can single out.

It's often a struggle to find balance in a 2 man CM. I think the best is when you have players that line up as CM and CM and interchange as the game demands
rather than DM/AM because 1 can't shoot and the other can't tackle. If only we had 2 Jordan Cousins we would have the best Midfield partnership in the league.

Needs to specialise in the centre rather than become some versatile yet generally underwhelming jack of all trades.
  • IMO, play more centrally with cousins, buyens, gudmunsson and Wilson play in a diamond with vetokele and ahearne grant or pigott up front. Cousins in a central position can play better passes and be more involved, I remember his great runs from last season, get him more involved and his assist count will rocket
  • Well like I said cousins is not the player many believe on here he is lost the ball again and is at fault for first goal today. Bloody useless

    Scapegoat alert.

We lost, get over it. It happens (quite regularly), f'ing scapegoat picked on after every game gets very tedious.

You could not be more wrong about a very good player.
  • Hmmm that's why he was taken off today ineffective and according to the markings on this site just passed sideways. Let's see Boxing Day what wonders he brings then

  • We've already seen what he offers in his season and a half playing for the first team. He's done enough this season to keep his place in the side and at the moment unless another u21 gets a chance we don't have many other options.
  • No.

Cousins is one of our brightest prospects there is no doubt about it. I was at the game yesterday and he was frankly awful. Cousins and Fox are the worst combination - a winger who can't defend and a full back who is terrible going forward, cousins then has no support and fox is always left exposed.

He cut inside every time onto his right and although he has scored twice from doing that this season, his shots were blocked every time and it became far too predictable. He can't defend the wing and why should he be able to? He is a CM and it's as simple as that. I am a huge advocate of cousins and think he is a fantastic player but it is becoming a farce as we saw yesterday. We have to either play him in the middle or not at all and sign a winger.

There are some games that it doesn't seem like such a weak link because he is such a good footballer he can get away with it, but watching his body language on the field it's clear he isn't happy with how he's playing a lot of the time. For gods sake at least play him on the right if Bob is going to insist playing him on the wing. It is getting ridiculous now.

  • Bob set us up to have wide players cutting inside onto stronger foot. OK if you have decent attacking FB making overlaps and uncertainty for defenders. Now with Gomes/Fox staying back everyone knows JC/JBG will cut inside and the wheels are coming off. Gudmundssen can get away sometimes due to attacking skills but Cousins is essentially defensive. Passing options limited so ball retention suffers.
  • No. Play him in the middle instead of Jackson.

Our best performance of the season was when Jackson wasn't on the pitch (Cardiff)
