about as uninspiring as it could get really !, half decent chance to progress and not much chance of us resting people as we don't have anyone else who can play !!
So much negativity on here! Over the years we have had some good matches against Blackburn, although not always ending in our favour.
The first I attended was when all we needed was a draw at home to go back up to the first division. But, as many of you will know, we couldn't manage it and lost to the odd goal in five. So began our decline.
Since then we had the FA Cup match at the Valley, when Blackburn were on their way to being Champions. A draw at home and a 0-1 win at their place. Another memorable encounter was at Ewood, when we got promotion back to the Premier.
Of course, there were a few to forget, the free coaches to Ewood and defeat in the cup. I will be there and so, I hope, will many more of you. Unfortunately, the 3rd Round falls on or around my birthday and I haven't had too many good presents from Charlton over the years.

If that was 1957/8, I was sat on the wall at the the back of the East Terrace in the corner down by the Covered End and I thought it was a losing 7 goal thriller (4-3 defeat) resulting in Wet Spam and Blackburn leapfrogging us to promotion. The Full Members Cup Final was a damp squib as well so it's about time we took some more retribution, even that Pitcher winner at Ewood in the cup by no means redresses the situation enough. :-)
Sorry ,yes, should have checked my facts and memory better, shouldn't I ? I was on the opposite side of the pitch to you, between west and north. Not a great position but, with the big crowd, couldn't get into my normal south bank terrace position.

No need to apologise, I can't remember too much about the match other than the score, I was only knee high to a grasshopper. Blackburn had a good team that day pretty sure Ronnie Clayton and Brian Douglas both English internationals and Derek Dougan of Northern Ireland, Villa and Wolves fame were in their line up. Edit; Dougan never signed for them until 1959 it might have been Peter Dobin?

Look at what this fixture is doing to us already!!!! Lifers turning on one another whilst they debate previous matches from the 50s. I hope we get this one out the way ASAP - worst possible tie we could've got....
Stig was hoping to come up to sheffield again, go on admit it
Only if we play you on a Monday. We've got a 100% record at Hillsboro on a Monday. Unless you can pull out another Sheff Wed vs Charlton game when we played you on a Monday and didn't win.
Am sure I went up there on a Monday bank holiday over the Christmas/New Year in 1982-83 when we lost 5.4.

I see your mate JJ is out of action for a bit and might even miss the cup tie! You going so that we can discuss whether the team is better with or without him in the post match views because I'll be there (winky smiley thing).

In all seriousness, I know it's not the greatest draw, but it's a shame the reaction the Cup provokes now from (all) supporters unless you draw one of the few glamour clubs...
For me, the glamour clubs are only a part of the story. Sure it would be nice to have a crack at one of the big boys and if we won (or even drew) we'd have something to cherish forever. But, I'd be just as happy to be drawn against some minnows. I'd just like to see a bit of variety really. A chance to see us play a team we've not faced before - or at least for a very long time. This draw means that in three seasons we'll have faced Blackburn seven times.
I've just had a look at the cup ties we've had in the last 10 years. Not including tonight's draw we've had 23 ties, the vast majority were as boring on paper as they were on grass. Only three Prem teams: Middlesbrough, Spurs and Fulham. Whilst eight (35%) were from the Championship and eight (35%) against teams in the same league as us at the time. No disrespect to Blackburn, I'm sure they are every bit as unenthused as we are. But there's only one draw that had the potential to be a bigger turn off and that would have been to get Udders again.
PS for those who like punk and believe in iTunes Karma - a random shuffle from 8,000 tunes just threw up "Your Emotions" by the Dead Kennedys.
This isn't a criticism but in three of those ten years we were in the third division so five of those twenty-three ties didn't have the Premier League (or most of the Championship) teams in them. Thus I would suggest that the numbers are quite likely to be close to predictable in terms of probabilities.
This is especially true when you factor in that, as we haven't beaten a Premier League team in the FA Cup during the ten years, we can, effectively, only draw a Premier League team once a season. With us not making the third round in 2009 that means that out of nine seasons when we were in the draw with the Premier League sides, a third of the times we drew one.
As Spurs must be considered one of the glamour draws I would suggest that we not been terribly unlucky in getting one of them either as if there are six glamour sides we should get one every ten years - again in the third round.
I agree that we haven't had many great, exciting, ties in recent years, but I suspect that very few clubs have played one of the top six more than once in the last ten years, and most of them would have been in the Premier League and able to consistently beat the lower league opposition.

Them's harsh words red chaser. If you have the time and inclination to go back through my JJ related posts you will see that initially I was overly critical, and I have always tried to offer a balanced opinion and can admit when I'm wrong
In all seriousness, people said we lost our shape on Saturday after he went off so I'm thinking I might be proved wrong over the next few weeks. I hope he recovers quickly and will come back fresher in Jan.
I was there Saturday and the main reason we lost our shape was because Bob asked Wilson to play LM when JJ went off to accommodate Cousins in the middle. Eventually he saw the light and tried JBG and Harriott on the left but when the second half onslaught came I'd like to think with his experience and ability to break up the play would have certainly helped the cause.

Well it will def be interesting to see what happens, but I think you are right. I'm just glad we've got Coq (insert innuendo as you see fit here) as cover

Good knowledge. Ruined my utopia of a 100% Monday win record of Hillsboro

Was there that day, simeonson and carl harris ripped them apart. We conceded after a couple of minutes and were 3-1 up at half time...I said to my mate well we must be worth at least a point as even we wont concede 3 goals in the second half...i was wrong we conceded 4.
Had tickets to park in their "official" car park about 30 years ago. It was like the dark side of the moon, when I made the 4000 holes gag, it went completely over the steward's head. Still nice people, but perhaps a little lacking?
Did I mention that I am delighted with the draw... ;-)

I take your point Kings Hill Addick, the irony is though that two of our three ties against Prem opposition happened when we were the third division.
I guess I shouldn't complain too much, though. Last year I was delighted that we reached the 6th round and still managed to draw a team below us. Until they knocked us out, that is. As I somehow felt it would't have been so humiliating if it was a big club running rings around us.

And the general performance of the team was diabolical that day. I actually felt it was one of the biggest insults to the fans that the only glimmer of light in what had been a crap season up until then, was ruined by the Powell/RD tension.
Don't get me wrong I think Powell was shafted by RD re: things like Thuram, but his stubbornness, the way we played and the team he sent out that day really f'd me off.
We were shocking. Terrible given how many fans made the effort to go up there

In comparison, I think the thought of going up there twice in a month will be enough to give even the hardiest of CAFC supporters nightmares.
I reckon Bob should liven up the FA Cup & make it all a bit more interesting and pick his starting eleven from Charlton Life.

Wake me up when the fourth replay is over..
