Henderson 7 should have come out more for goal? Easily beaten.
Solly 7 Would have been a cracking goal
    Bikey 7 steady
    Ben Haim 7.5 superb
Wiggins 7 great work for goal. Had no LM in front of him.
Cousins 7.5 motm nullified Drenthe and was everywhere
Buyens 7 quality on the ball
    Jackson 7 decent energy
Moussa 6 poor. Not sure what he brings to side
Ahearne Grant 6.5 unlucky to be hooked so early
    Tucudean 7 linked well
Gudmundsson 7 shame he never got a few shots off
Vetokele 7 hope he stays fit
  • Henderson - 6 Very little to do but pick the ball out of the net. What he had to do, he did competently.

Solly - 6.5 Getting back to his best. If he had scored with his 2nd half shot, it would have been a shoe in for goal of the season.

Bikey - 6 A bit of a curate's egg. Got caught out a few times going forward, but just about won his battle with their striker.

Ben Haim - 9 MOTM. Awesome display, one of the best I've seen. Last ditch tackles, accuratepasses, and mazy runs when the ball seemed glued to his laces, including one that carried him into the opposition penalty area. So calm, and authoritative.

Wiggins - 6.5 Given a really torrid time by Drenthe in the 1st half, but stuck to his task. Much more the Wiggins of old in the 2nd half.

Cousins - 6.5 Another example of why we are lucky to have him. BP did not have to make wholesale changes to deal with the threat of Drenthe. Move Jordan to the left = Drenthe anonymous and an unchained Wiggins.

Buyens - 7 I think Yoni has taken a while to adjust to the pace of the Championship. He now doesn't try to win the game in the 1st 20 minutes, and paces himself more. Very good at keeping the team ticking over, and some telling tackles.

Jackson - 6 Stuck to it, but could get nowhere near Drenthe in the 1st half. Very good corners in the game, to keep the pressure on. Looked dead on his feet when substituted.

Moussa - 4 I have given Franck the benefit of the doubt up until now, but cannot see what he brings to the team. His decision making is awful, and tends to run with the ball, until he gets gang tackled. Maybe he is trying too hard?

Ahearne Grant - 5 He was found out a bit in this game. There is no doubting his determination and pace, but needs to learn how to bring others into the game. He was the only player to test the keeper in the 1st half.

Tucudean - 6 Poor 1st half, when he was expected to be the fulcrum of the attack. Much better in the 2nd when he was allowed to drift around, and link attack and midfield.

Gudmundsson - 6 Without doing anything of note, changed the game. Defenders where scared of his pace, and sat deeper, unclogging the midfield, which allowed for our secret weapon, Ben Haim, to exploit the open spaces.

Vetokele - 7 He seems to have some kind of stealth technology the allows him not to be seen by defenders in a packed penalty area! It's the only explanation I can think of for how he manages to get into positions like this one, to score. Is he the best poacher we have had since Killer? His overall work rate is excellent. A performance that has raised his cult status up to an almost deifying one. (I include myself in this!) If the vote for player of the year was held today, he would be a shoe in!

@Redhenry‌ What's your problem mate? Firstly this is the players marks thread where we all mark performances as we see them. We don't ALL see it the same way, which is fair enough but to start getting trigger happy on the Lol icon because others don't see performances in the same light as you do, is childish.........oh hang on half term doesn't end until Monday :-0

You are obviously upset at and as it now transpires, many of the marks for average and below scores for KAG, George, Cousins or Jackson but the game is of two halves! Had you bothered to take this issue to the post match views, I would have happily explained my reasoning but no, you have to try and be clever and get finger twitchy with the Lol icon.......Take the rose tinted glasses off and do me a favour, GROW up!

Apologies Lancs for the rant but I feel a lot better now :-)
  • Henderson - 7
    Solly - 8
    Bikey - 7
    Ben Haim - 7
    Wiggins - 6
    Cousins - 6
    Buyens - 6
    Jackson - 7
    Moussa - 5
    Ahearne Grant - 6
    Tucudean - 5
    Gudmundsson - 6
    Vetokele - 7
  • Henderson - 6. Not a lot to do

Solly - 7. Much better second half than first.

Bikey - 7 some shaky stuff but sone memorable moments too.

Ben Haim - 8. Panicked with one shooting opportunity but a class act.

Wiggins - 7 torn a new one first half but no protection. Great contribution to goal.

Cousins - 6. If I'd been awarding marks at half time he's have got 3!! Effort is not enough. Dreadful attempt at a free header. Much Better second half and nullified Drenthe.

Buyens - 7. Much more like his old self. Weds have him more space than recent opponents.

Jackson - 5. Barely noticed him other than set pieces.

Moussa - 5. Saw a lot of the ball. Helped our shape but made the wrong decision most of the time.

Ahearne Grant - 4. Out of his depth. Occasional good signs but not ready yet.

Tucudean - 4. Bambi on ice. Hopeless.

Gudmundsson - 6. Not fit but gives us something extra.

Vetokele - 7. We need him back but also need to have realistic expectations. He's good but not a miracle worker.

    Ooh, little touchy fella!
KAG was isolated up front and probably did as well as he could've done. We didn't supply the forwards at all in the first half and I think George and KAG did ok. I'm struggling to see why KAG got some 4.5's and 5's, give the kid a break. Nothing more than that, why the personal stuff?

Gosh, I wish I had your football insight. I really don't know why I go to games as I clearly don't have a clue what is going on.

I naively thought KAG wasted numerous good positions, miscontrolled repeatedly and gave the ball away in a critical position that was a key cause of their goal. Whilst I think he will be very good I thought he was pants yesterday and needs a loan to a L1 or 2 club.

Perhaps you ought to let Bob P know how good he was as he obviously mistakenly thought he was struggling too. Maybe if we kept KAG on we wouldn't have performed so poorly in the second half.

That's more like it, be man enough to come out and state your case instead of laughing at everybody you don't agree with. Check out the consensus of opinion on KAGs performance from all the marks thus far. I think you will find that you are in the minority marking him so generously but hey that's your opinion.

Not sure how many times you have seen him play but that was my fifth and believe it or not I rate the kid highly and he is definitely one for the future. Yesterday he was sadly out of sorts and when he was on the ball fluffed his lines apart from one decent snap shot with his left foot albeit at the second attempt. Bob also decided enough was enough by substituting him at half time. Therefore I don't don't need to give him a break in this thread and I mark him as I see fit with no sentiment clouding my judgement. It's not personal I just found your reaction strange to say the least.

Henderson - 6 Beaten by a good shot and didn't have a lot else to do.
Solly - 7 Thought he mopped up pretty well in the 2nd half. Much better than he was at Fulham.
Bikey - 7 Not especially good in the air for a centre-back but does the blocking role well. Lucky not to be carded and give away a penalty.
Ben Haim - 8 His 2nd half display was a master-class. Won a lot of headers against the big lad. There were early errors but overall he was classy.
Wiggins - 7 Did well. A step in the right direction.
Cousins - 6 Looked a bit one-paced. Could be knackered.
Buyens - 7 Very assured and fed the ball out wide well in the 2nd half.
Jackson - 6 Battled well but didn't offer too much offensively.
Moussa - 5.5 Petered out after a promising first 15 minutes at the tip of the diamond. Looked a bit weak.
Ahearne Grant - 5 Tried very hard and managed to work the goalie once. Made a lot of errors though and looked frustrated. No worries...all part of the game.
Tucudean - 6 Showed the odd flash with clever lay-offs in the box.
Gudmundsson - 7.5 Suits him coming on when the opposition sit back and allow him time but does find space and his technique allows him the extra second to produce. His one cross was far better than anything else but I hope that doesn't mean he'll revert back to the wing. Want to see him shoot more.
Vetokele - 7 Needs to work on his one on one finishing. He's muffed a few now this season but it could be such a trademark because his pace & movement will get him those sort of chances. Appeared to be the only one not ball watching for his goal. Good player and there's more to come.

    I can lol if I want. :)
Cousins 5.5, he was everywhere and must have won about 70% of headers from goalie kicks.
Moussa 5 didn't do too much wrong, supply wasn't good to say the least.
KAG 5 Every time he got the ball he didn't have an option. He was there to run at the opposition until Vetokele came on, which I felt he did as much as he could.

So can I but you started it :-) Cousins was awful first half on the right almost Sheff Utd away in the cup performance so 4/10. Better second half on the left 6/10 average = 5 gave extra 0.5 for the through ball to Igor.

Moussa had enough of the ball but can't remember him creating much with it, a bit like Bulot flatters to deceive IMO.

Nothing more to say on KAG.

Marks from Elland Road to follow the match Tuesday for round 2 if you are going? :-)

Henderson 6 - Don't worry about him conceeding soft long shots like Hamer, some good distribution. Steady.
Solly 7 - would have loved to see that 30 yard shot go in the 2nd
Bikey 6.5 - some mistakes, lucky not to give penalty away, but great player to watch
Ben Haim 7 - started out with misplaced passes but defended well and drove team on in 2nd half
Wiggins 6.5 - point for run and cross that lead to goal
Cousins 6.5 - challenged Drenthe in 2nd, missed header in first. Some good things but still playing out of position.
Buyens 7 - Better today but no Claus Jensen when in more attacking midfield positions.
    Jackson - 6 - Ok
Moussa 5 - disappointing. Got in some promising positions but was denied space. Better coming on as a sub maybe.
Ahearne Grant 5.5 - good energy, got some shots off, did his best. Better coming on as a sub.
Tucudean 5 - not very good. Should be coming on as sub, not a starter.
Gudmundsson - 6.5 - improved things when he came on.
Vetokele - 7.5 - Point for goal. With VK in the team Charlton have chance of getting something from a game.

Henderson 6 - felt he could have done better with the goal, little else to do
Solly 7 - got forward a lot and almost looked like a wingback
Bikey 7 - not his best game but still more than a handful at the back
Ben Haim 7 - played the ball out of defence nicely a few times and a few good runs forward with it at times too
Wiggins 7.5 - much the same as Solly, looked like a wingback and a great assist for the goal gets him an extra 0.5
Cousins 6 - worked his socks off but still not playing to his best out wide
Buyens 8 MOM - hopefully over his recent dip in form, broke up play, pinged some lovely balls through but generally kept play moving
Jackson 6 - got a few blocks in, came close to scoring in the 2nd half (Buyens clip into the box?)
Moussa 6 - seemed to keep running into traffic
Ahearne Grant 5 - tried and its clear he has talent but probably needs Igor alongside him to flourish
Tucudean 7 - I thought he put himself about a lot and one of these days one of his volleys / overhead kicks will find the back of the net
Gudmundsson 7 - has great vision on the ball, would like to see him cut in more from the right on his left foot
Vetokele 8 - almost gave him MOM as i'm convinced had he not come off the bench we wouldn't have scored. Missed the one on one as it was on his left foot. Tucked the goal away so easily yet I feel any other Charlton striker would have controlled it and probably not had a shot. Looks like scoring all the time.
  • Henderson 6 did ok
    Solly 7
Bikey 5 struggled against Nuhu, and his falling over cost us their goal
    Ben Haim 6 passing poor
Wiggins 7 that run was the player of two years ago
    Cousins 6 worked hard
    Buyens 7 his best game.
    Jackson 6 was ok.
Moussa 5 at best did little well.
Ahearne Grant 5 asking to much of him.
Tucudean 5 can not impose himself on a game.
Gudmundsson 5 not his best game.
Vetokele 7 made adifference not just the goal.
Was dissapointing we can not beat teams like Sheffield Wednesday, they are not better than us.

  • Henderson: 7 - Continues to surprise me as a signing... Really commanding in his area yet couldnt do much about the goal
Solly: 8 (MOTM) - Shakey start yet great 2nd half, should have had his first goal at the Valley, seeing him get the Captains armband was one of my favourite parts of the match
Bikey: 7 - Dealt with Nuhiu's height advantage well but a few slips could have proved costly.
Ben-Haim: 7.5 - Pretty much the same as Bikey yet brought the ball forward well
Wiggins: 7.5 - Had to deal with Drenthe which wasn't easy until Cousins came over to the left (Ironic?) yet great assist for the goal.
Cousins: 7 - Worked hard in the middle of Midfield
Buyens: 7 - The rest did him some good against Fulham, looked much better
Jackson: 7 - Got on with him job quietly as always yet felt we lost a bit of our Attacking threat when he came off
Moussa: 6 - He's going backwards, haven't been impressed yet this season
Ahearne-Grant: 6 - The kid tried yet always going to be difficult against a physical Wednesday side, needs to pass it more when in possession around the middle of Midfield
Tucudean: 6.5 - Not a great First Half but feel he compliments Vetokele when he comes on, allows Igor to find the spaces.

  • Redhenry & RedChaser
Keep your little argument off the players marks thread. I have flagged you both for abuse and will do it again if you continue, if you wish to comment on marks then do it elsewhere.
    thank you
  • Henderson - 7 quiet game really
    Solly - 7 - improved
Bikey - 6.5 Not comfortable against that big fella. Lucky not to get a red card. Lucky not to give away a penno 5 mins later.
Ben Haim - 8 Reminded me of Costa. Lots of "nous" in there. Great game
Wiggins - 7.5 no cover at all in the first half - when protected a little he became a much better player
Cousins - 6 Weakest game for a little while but assume he was confused as to where to play as he covered all positions in midfield. Sometimes needs to be stronger
Buyens - 6.5 Better but our midfield lacks a bit of pace
Jackson - 6 On his arse a few times. On his heels a few more times. Time for a rest
Moussa - 5 Getting more frustrated with him. I keep thinking there is a great player in there but am yet to see anything that gets me off my seat
Ahearne Grant - 5.5 tough game for him. Not going to relish playing against big lumps at this stage of his career
Tucudean - 5 Every time I think he's turned a corner he regresses again
Gudmundsson - 6 Keeping him fit is essential. Could be the new Andy Reid
Vetokele - 7 On the spot but didn't do a lot else.

Summary - I want Ajdarevic back. We were pretty drab and predictable. Most importantly we were slow. We need an injection of pace and someone else that can unlock the door.

Imagine a front 3 of Igor fed by Ajdarevic and Gudmondson in behind. Three players - all with great attacking instincts. All intelligent. That would scare the shit out of a lot of Championship defenders. Stick Buyens, Cousins and Jackson in the middle for a 4-3-2-1
