Honours: Four England Under 21 Caps ,3 goals. Three England "B" Caps. All with Charlton.
League Cup Winner 1991 with Sheffield Wednesday. First Division Championship winner with Crystal Palace 1993/1994.
The trainee accounts clerk signed for Charlton for £12,000 from Non League Woodford Town in August 1986 after an initial trial period and went on to play 95 League and Cup appearances scoring 29 goals before joining Sheffield Wednesday for £600,000 four years later. Williams made 13 appearances during the 1987/1988 season with the addicks without a goal but it was during a six week loan from October 1987 to Third Division Brentford that he got his first professional goals with 6 in 8 games.
The start of 1988/1989 would see Williams claim a regular place in the side and ended the season as leading goalscorer with 17 goals. A call up to England Under 21 squad to the end of season tournament in Toulon was to follow and he scored 3 goals in his first 2 games.
The relegation season of 1989/1990 saw Williams once again as leading goalscorer with three England "B" caps in the bargain before he was bought by Ron Atkinson at Sheffield Wednesday in August 1990.
Williams spent 2 years at Hillsborough winning a League Cup medal before joining Crystal Palace in a swap deal with Mark Bright. Williams won a First Division Championship medal during the 1993/1994 whilst at Selhurst Park. After loans with Sunderland and Birmingham City he returned to Charlton in the 1995/1996 season where he would make nine appearances with no goals . He was loaned out to Torquay United during that season before ending his league career with Southend United in 1998 due to injuries.
Since retiring he has played for Canvey Island and appearances for the Charlton Vets team, as at December 2013 was director of coaching with the Florida Fire Juniors.

I remember going to watch him play an England B match at the old den. He used to like playing alongside Carl Leaburn. Carlo held the ball well and helped create chances for Williams.
He reckoned all the sugar and E-number additives gave him more energy!
