Noticed Parker avoided the question when asked "how pleasing was it to score against your former team"

I'd imagine having had "you're a c" chanted at him he was very pleased. Same as when he scored for Newcastle, a thoroughly professional way to respond.

Enjoyed listening to the crowd noise during his sky interview, I had wondered if the Mocs would pic up "greedy bastard" chant.
  • They picked that up loud and clear
  • I will give up the will to live if there is the same outcry when Churchy leaves in the January window.
  • He did get Bobby Davro's house though.
  • I like him.

Left charlton on 15 k per week
Went to Chelsea on 45 k per week
Went Newcastle on 65 k per week
Went to west spam on 80 k per week
Went to spurs on 60 k per week
Went to Fulham on 40k per week
    Let's face it. That's good.
    Who wouldn't ?

    Medals won - zero
Do you really think he'll care? I know I wouldn't.

Just depends if we use the 50mil wisely
  • In his book Curbs said that Parker said to him that he would "Go to the papers" if he wasn't allowed to go to Chelsea. Curbs said if he did that he would "Sue him" if he did that.

Parker behaving like that by saying he would "Go to the papers if he could not go to Chelsea" was not exactly setting a very good role model example to his young baby son.

Precisely - football fans moaning about a lack of loyalty from players is ridiculous.

@PL54‌ Why do you find the weeding out of an undesirable element attached to our club amusing? Enlighten me.

    RedChaser said:

What? Read what I said, don't put your spin on it 'If there is substance in these rumours'. Whether I could see the alleged incident is irrelevant! If It is true as has been mentioned on here then let the club identify them and take appropriate action. I'm sorry but I just don't get what is funny about that.

Are these both aimed at me or are you talking to yourself?

Did what you are getting upset about actually happen?

    Who wouldn't ?

In the midst of the cash crisis at Pompey, Herman took and instant pay cut in order to fund the ground staff wages.
Not a deferment of payment until some future date - but an actual drop in his earnings.

His logic was: "We can't play football on surface that's not right, which also increases the chance of a career-ending injury to one of our team, or the opposition".

    Who wouldn't ?
Ben Haim did n't and was still recieving money from them till recently
  • It's his life and he should be able to do what the heck he likes.

    He did

He did serve the club admirably for over 100 games and we got mega bucks for him that the likes of Dowie squandered. He shouldn't have stayed just because we wanted to get into Europe and turned down a huge move. When an opportunity like that comes in, you can't say "Can you please wait eight months" That's stupid and unrealistic for anyone to expect. What if he broke his leg the next week. If that had been a mate of mine I would have told him to take it even at Charlton. It's been over a decade he's now 34, a true professional and yes, a great role model to young players and he seems to still care about the club.

Well put, and I probably wouldn't argue with it.
My point is, my primary concern is not Scott Parker it's Charlton Athletic and what's best for them and how Parkers actions and the way he went about them impacted on the club

    Time to move on.

    You move on.
    exactly
  • If we had spent the 10 million on someone who could actually play football, then it wouldn't have been such an issue.

Maybe, but we didn't have any time in that season. That was our one chance at Europe, blown.

  • You don't sign a 5 year contract and a couple of months later demand to leave your job, it's bang out of order.

The understanding allegedly was that if he signed a 5 year contract he would be advised if any of the big clubs came in for him. Also allegedly but never denied Murray kept the Chelsea' approach away from him.

Like Tom K I think we failed to capitalise on the revenue we received, albeit because of the timing it was not till the summer that we could have done so.

Thar said can anyone remember who did come in that summer?

That's what some wanted Poyet to do.

I didn't see him get coined but if he did that's absolutely disgraceful - and just like the Carson incident could land the club in trouble.

For what it's worth I don't hate Parker anymore. We're a selling club and we sold him for more than anyone else that we've produced, he therefore is the prime justification for our tremendous youth policy which is paying dividends to this day,

Ye like when we sold Poyet for 10 mil.
  • I was obviously being flippant with my comment about Church leaving in January but the fact remains that some people are only get agitated at the mention of Parker's name because he is/was so good.

Rarely is there more than a mention when one of our youngsters is let go but when, as in the case of someone like Turner, that player does make it in the top flight the reaction is "we had better than him at the time anyway".

The truth is that a player is a commodity. The Club and player both know that. When it suits the Club to sell a player at the right time it's good business. When it doesn't the player gets abuse for the next decade by fans. We got top money for Parker. We might not have got as much had we sold him at the end of the season.

One final thought. If anyone seriously thinks we were guaranteed Champions League football had Parker stayed needs, I would suggest, to check the record books and check our form pre and post January under Curbs. It doesn't make pretty reading.

Mate, we finished 7th. How pretty do you want it to read?
Do you seriously think we wouldn't have finished higher had Parker remained?
I don't think anybody has said they thought Champions League football was guaranteed.
    We had a shot.
  • I cannot understand or believe the vitriol surrounding Scott both last night and on this forum the rubbish being spoken over his departure and reasons are frankly pathetic. In regards to loyalty in Football talk to Chris Powell/Kergomant talk to all the kids who don't make it - Footballers are a commodity

We as fans can be irrational at times even with our own we can be disloyal in terms of support/critism of players who play for us so how can we expect any player in any era to show complete loyalty - unfortunately its a job !!

At the time Chelsea or rather Abramovich was chasing big names - Duff was Blackburn through and through - Bridge was the 2nd best England left back and went to Chelsea when they had the 1st in Cole. He clearly thought after seein Scott in the boxing day game that there was a player that could stop the Chelsea bandwagon rolling or at least help it get going.

Its been said before that given the opportunity to secure your future for life and that of your family why would you pass up on that? Who knows if the offer was " you come now or you don't come at all"

On last nights game whilst as a Charlton supporter over 50 years I recognise passion and that supporters need an "edge" when following their team. Those who call someone a c*** and w****** and sing it should take a long look at themselves. Standing in the crowd amongst Charlton fans last night was plainly embarrassing

There are some people who no doubt show a wholly than thou attitude over racism in football yet vent their spleen in the most disgusting ways. Why is it ok to call another human being a C*** with so much anger especially when you don't really know them.

On a last point those who question Scott's career would probably give their all to have been in the position once where he has been.

I for one will stand proud to applaud him when he returns to the Valley - I hope fair minded Charlton fans do also.

I share your distaste and abhorrence of the vitriol and foul language I really do.
Although for sections of our crowd it's not just Scott Parker, anyone is fair game including our own players.
    That's another subject

As for the rest of you post, I just can't buy into this "Scott" this and "Scott" that, jolly good luck and let's accept it gracefully tack.

As for standing proud (really) and applauding him when he returns to the Valley - well he's already returned at least once, but whatever floats your boat.
I'll reserve my applause for the Charlton team
  • Loved the chant "There's only one greedy bastard" last night...
