League division 2. Saturday 14th October 1978 - Filbert Street. Att: 14,277
Leicester City (0) 0 Charlton Athletic (2) 3 (Flanagan 17 66, Brisley 31)
Leicester City: Wallington, Whitworth, Rofe, May, Sims, Kelly, Weller (Henderson 69), Kember, Christie, Williams, Hughes.
Charlton Athletic: Wood, Berry, Campbell, Tydeman, Shipperley, Shaw, Brisley, Robinson, Flanagan, Madden, Gritt. Unused sub: Powell.

Andy Nelson considered this victory to be Charlton's best away performance in the four years he had managed the club. Alas, Charlton finished 4th from bottom (but above Millwall). The Martin Robinson (19) and Mike Flanagan (16) partnership netted 35 goals in all competitions.
Also this season: Arsenal beat Man Utd 3-2 in one of the great F A cup final finishes and Nottingham Forest won the European Cup in Munich.

I went up on the train with, Trev, the scuffy bloke with long hair and the guy who still wears a bandana and sits in the East Stand. The escort from the station was always fun.
This was probably Martin Robinson's best season for us, he had a good understanding with Flash. The team doesn't look like one that would really struggle, but I guess it was fine margins even then.
This was one of a number of exciting away performances during the first half of that season: 5;4 at Chesterfield, 4:1 at Cardiff and 5:5 at Bristol Rovers. There was even a 2:0 win at Millwall to savour. I think our season really feel apart after the Hales and Flanagan punch up against Maidstone. The upshot of that was that Flanagan walked out the club and that time he was by far and away our most important player.

Great day out, got thrown out of the Royal Oak in Charlton when got off the coach at the Valley for cheeking the landlord. Fair cop, oh and I was under age as well, just.
My bloody mate reminds me of this at every home game when we walk past the Oak, I think he treasures that memory more than the 3-0
