Audio-visual equipement and expertise - Can you help the museum?

At the new museum we have what we are calling a viewing room.

The idea is to be able to use it to show films and clips as well as being a lecture/class room for local schools and other visitors such as the reminesence class.

We have the room and the chair so all we need now is the audio-visual equipment : - )

So how can you help?

Maybe you work in that field and can recommend the type of kit we need.

Maybe you know somewhere that has some older stuff they would be willing to donate.

Or maybe you can help with funding the purchase. Happy to have a sponsors name if that is what is wanted.

Spec? I don't know exactly which is why we need help but a big screen, sound equipment and equipment to play film/videos/link to a PC/memory drive.

The museum is a volunteer project and while we are very grateful for the space that the club have given us there is no funding from them. Hence this request.

So thanks in advance. Please inbox

  • What happened to the old "Big Screen"? It's probably recycled now, but with a bit of skill and creativity that could be turned into a neat backdrop for your AV room if it still exists.
  • Also, if they are still around somewhere, the old seats that were taken out this summer could be used as theatre seating in there.
  • Speak to @GoodbyeHorse as I think he has expertise (in the past) with this field.
  • If able to pick them up I have so Ministry of sound speakers 4 big stand up speakers that you can dot around a smaller centre one and the main unit
  • What exactly do you want Henry? I am friends with two fin makers and am willing to seek their advice but suspect they would want a bit more detail. Message me if I can help.
  • Thanks Paulie.

SA, I don't know what we want but if you can ask them perhaps they can tell us what we need.
  • Henry if you don't mind me butting in here, based on what I saw of the viewing room, you need a main screen which can show films on DVD to an audience max 30-40, is that right?

But separately (at least, I think ideally separately) you might be interested in smaller AV units of the types seen in museums, which play specific topical AV clips when selected by the visitor. That is probably more specialist equipment. But it would be a very attractive element.
  • How big is the room H.I? Pm me the details and I can let you know a few options with diff budgets
  • Ok will do Henry but one of them is a Man U supporter!

  • Quick update. A lifer who works in this field visited yesterday and is going to draw up a couple of specs for a basic system and something with bells and whistles.
