Charlton’s development squad play their first ever game in the U21 Premier League Cup on Tuesday evening at Welling United’s Park View Road stadium (7pm).

The Addicks take on one of Senior Professional Development Coach (U18-U21) Jason Euell’s former clubs with AFC Wimbledon making the short trip to south-east London.

This is the first season that Charlton have entered the competition, which was won by Reading last season and is a straight knock-out featuring academies from all levels of the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP) structure.

The Addicks are a category-two academy in the current system, with aspirations of achieving category-one status in future, and take on the Dons who are coached by Alan Reeves.

Charlton enter the competition at the second qualifying round stage and will secure a place in the last 32 if victorious on the night in Welling.

Wimbledon reached this round by beating AFC Bournemouth 1-0 thanks to a last-minute winner from Will Nightingale.

Tickets can be purchased on the night and are priced £3 adults, £2 senior citizens and concessions and £1 juniors who are accompanied by an adult.

  • the link doesn't actually say it's free for ST holders, I think that was a line Falconwood added as his thoughts
  • Just rang Welling up and they said Season Ticket holders get free entry (providing they show it)

  • If Callum Harriott is half as good as he thinks he is.

Then Dominate matches like this Messi.
  • 26' Charlton growing into the game here, with Harriott and Munns beginning to influence proceedings more. Still 0-0 for now. (IL) #CAFCLive

    Goal! 1-0 Charlton. (IL) #CAFCLive

30' @MA_Fox heads into the path of @karlanGrant97, whose first shot is saved before he finishes from an acute angle. 1-0. (IL) #CAFCLive

32' Nearly a second for #cafc as Harriott whips in a perfect corner, but nobody is there to meet it and it curls wide. (IL) #CAFCLive

34' George Pilbeam cynically takes out a marauding Harriott and receives a booking. (IL) #CAFCLive

I'm here. Trust me, he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is.

Only thing to report is that the new Centre Back is a big lad and looks pretty good.

53' @jack_munns scores the second for #cafc. He played a fine through-ball to @karlanGrant97, who hit the post and Munns scored the rebound.
  • I'd like to know more about how good Harriott think's he is? I see a kid that actually lacks confidence more often than not, which I believe maybe his down fall in football. The better player's always believe in themselves no matter how bad there playing. Of course if it's down to his twitter username I'd just like to point out Jacko is currently my what's app profile picture but I don't believe I'm anywhere as good as him, good looking as him or even come close to having a better barnet than him.
  • 3-0. Holmes-Dennis with a belter from 30 yards.
  • 4-0. Belter from the man in question. Harriot.

Very impressed with a number of our lads tonight. You could see that Harriott, Fox and Grant are first team squad and a class above IMO.

Was a little dissappointed with No 9 Ansah and expected more. Both CBs were solid (literally in the case of new signing Ayo who is a big unit) and had good games although Dons had little to offer up front apart from their tricky left winger who Holmes Dennis (HD) struggled with at times but stuck at it. Muldoon had a shaky start but settled into the game nicely performing a 'Diego' type role in front of the back four.

Great strikes from HD and Harriott for the 3rd and 4th goals after a well taken 1st goal at the second attempt from Grant following a through ball over the top. Grant always posed a threat and hit the woodwork twice Munns tapping home the first of those which rebounded into his path for our 2nd goal.

A satisfying night's work for Jason Euell and his lads, the future is bright. Let's hope they get a decent home tie in the 1st round proper of 32 clubs.
  • Not the best story involving AFC Wimbledon tonight, however...
  • The range and quality of passing was outstanding.

    Really enjoyed the game.

Was impressed with Cumberbatch in midfield.
  • Could Ayo be confidently expected to deputise at 1st team level?

Difficult to make that call on 90 minutes Kap but he certainly has the physique and looked comfortable on the ball. Let's see how he does in the 1st round proper when the opposition should be stronger. Terrell Thomas alongside him was equally as good, quick in the tackle, good distribution and if they both progress I wouldn't be surprised if one of them at least makes the bench for the FA Cup in January or sooner if there is an injury crisis.

Liked the silky skills and vision shown by Terrell and the presence of Ayo in this game BUT I think that the oppos didn't really push them... It'd be good to see them under pressure? Also liked KAG who's not afraid to fire off a shot and pretty much accurate he was! Better than Harriott on this show...
  • That was the best I have seen KAG play. He was as sharp as a tack, but to me his all round game was good. Last year I thought he was a bit of an individual player, but last night he intelligently brought players into play and his hold up play has improved immeasurably.

I doubted last year that Munns would make it, but have seen him play 5 times this season and he has stepped up. He has a chance now and could be useful if Buyens gets an injury. He has a big heart and an ever increasing eye for goal.

Sat close to Big Bad Bob. Massive smile on his face as he looked back towards Damien Matthew after KAG's first.

Overall all very promising and everyone out there were decent imo.

You are bang on the money there....as that's what I overheard one of our coaches saying last night, word for word!

Your true identity has been rumbled, @bolloxbolder...

  • It's all in the BB, Weegie Addick
  • How long before KAG starts?
  • If we got to the semi final of this PLC, we could play Pope, Gomez, Fox,munns, Harriott, Lennon, Piggott, Aherne-grant and Cousins, plus the best of the rest. This shows how strong we are with our youngsters.

This won't happened because half of them are already in the 1st team squad, but it's a nice thought thou !
