  • Rufus got a straight red in our first game in the premiership. Elbow on Shearer at a corner, ref sent him off and didn't give a pen as the ball wasn't in play.
  • Hales 5 Rufus 5 : score draw.

I would think most of Killers were for fighting and Rufus' for fouls.
    sounds about right.

Richard was a quietly spoken gentle guy off the pitch.

With Derek the clue is in the nickname. Was a joy to watch his buccaneering style.

  • I remember Carl Leaburn being sent off at Tranmere, elbows I think. Shearer did the same thing week in and week out and got away with it. Think we lost.
  • Leaburn got sent off at Molyneaux for punching John De Wolf . Who cried
  • Hi Shirty
I notice that John Ryan is not on your lists.
I was at Upton Park when he was sent off in the fifties and not long after the 7-6 game in 57 he was sold to Newcastle.

Good spot. John "Buck" Ryan was sent off at Upton Park on 5/4/58 after a clash with Noel Cantwell.

Shows how much my memory's playing up. I thought that Southend away game where Gatting got sent off, Walshie got sent off too as well as Curbishley being sent to the stands. Kelvin Morton.

I also thought it was Brenda who was sent off at Grimsby, but perhaps I'm remembering him clapping the referee and getting a booking after Rufus and Kins had gone. Awful awful refereeing. Mendonca scored a late penalty in that game incidentally (EDIT: for them).

Whilst Rufus was sent off a lot, at least two of his were well dodgy (Killer earned all his). Newcastle away and, in particular, Leeds at home when he was sent off by Wiley for a stamp that never was. One of Parker's reds was rescinded wasn't it? Guess it still counts.

How Sasa Ilic never got sent off I'll never know. Remember at least two assaults he got away with.
  • Just a bit pedantic......red cards only came in late 70's.....I remember referees waving their arms about and pointing to the tunnel, if they knew where it was. My first one was Johnny Summers. http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-23634720

Elbowing him in fact - that big old elbow made me a Charlton supporter
