This day in 1984

Can anyone remind me, please, of the scorers in the 3-1 away win at Wimbledon on this day in 1984?
We were right behind the goal and I think Derek Hales scored from inside the 6 yard box, for a change and I recall Ronnie Moore getting one at the other end - am I right and who scored the third, please?

Some real Charlton heroes in that team!
Never forget Les Berry and, in particular, Nicky Johns' performances away at Chesterfield in 1980/81 - Derek Hales scored the only goal of the game but Nicky Johns was quality that day and anything in the air into the Charlton box was swiftly despatched by Les Berry!
  • My mate got lifted in the air by the surge after one of the goals and lost one of his trainers.
  • Does he want it mate I kept it wondering who's it was

Was this the game at Wimbledon where a lot of Charlton went in their little covered end and it all went mad after Hales scored the opener early on up at that end of the ground? Jimmy Hill was less than impressed with Charlton fans that day.

Also, talking about that Chesterfield game, I went up on the Lewis coaches that day and remember Hales scoring an absolute belter to win it and remember we were top of the league that evening(not sure if we were already top).
  • It went off in their end and as we were being escorted round the ground to the away end, Killer scored.
  • Move on

At the Wimbledon game we were certainly on open terrace behind the goal Charlton were facing first half coz I remember Killer's goal right in front of me. Maybe we were wrong end! It's a long time ago but my brother posted a pic of us at that game only recently he'd put on FB.
Chesterfield game I arrived 6 minutes late - and Killer's goal was in the 5th minute! Was gutted but at least we got the win

This game was a couple of years later in our promotion season. We lost 3 1 I think.
  • Hales prodded us in front from close range (a goal which my Spurs mate who was there that day, still re-enacts not inaccurately, with a sudden thrust of his leg....like someone treading on an insect). Moore's goal was at the far end and was slotted across the keeper into the far corner and I can't really remember Flanagan's, apart from it being from pretty close range.

I can remember coming out of the ground with the likes of Steve Dixon and Richard Birch, thinking that we were on the verge of having a great season. We'd already won 3-0 at Cardiff and Hales was bang in form (so we let him go to Gillingham!!!!) In the event, probably the only decent things that season were the Spurs cup ties, not getting relegated and the start of the Junior Reds.

That's right. The following Tuesday (i think) we were at Brammall Lane (1-1 Mark Stuart) and some fans had a go at our directors in the car park about the move to Selhurst Park. One of the fans told Hill that it was the reason for the excursion into the Wimbledon end! Hill dismissed the bloke very easily and then stayed on to talk to the rest of us about the why the decision was taken. Whatever the arguments were, he was really impressive that night and he didn't run for cover like the other directors had done.

I remember Killer's goal now you remind me - he was simply lethal in the 6 yard box and his left foot was special.
The Ronnie Moore goal has stayed with me from that day - I remember him pulling his right leg back ready to shoot (I was going to say, cocking his leg but thought better of it) and he drove it low across the keeper into the far corner.
For those of you who find our reminiscing pitiful, may I remind you that 'that feeling of total elation when Charlton score' was as strong then as it is now - just different players

Digressing slightly but, as you mentioned Mark Stuart, my wife & I were in the Cantilever Stand (seated area - all Man Utd fans) at Old Trafford in August, 1986 when Mark Stuart's sweet left boot buried the ball into the United net in the 49th minute and we held on for that famous victory (one of, if not the, last games of Ron Atkinson's tenure as Manchester United Manager).
Manchester United 0 Charlton Athletic 1 FT.
When Charlton scored I took off towards the sky and punched the air in celebration - I was genuinely the ONLY person, as I could see, in that stand who celebrated. The lady to my left commented, "Ever felt like you're on your own?" Happy days!

Me and my mate were in the seats above/behind the away terrace. We were on our feet too. Fuck em...we weren't going to take the lead there every week!
  • Did the same myself when Mark Kinsella put us in front years later. Never known a corporate end so aggressive. They were all smiles later of course!!
  • Is that the game where they tried keeping us in at the end but we just broke the decrepit old gates down and strolled out?
  • Young Robert lee playing in the same team as Killer and Flash. The wimbledon CB being taken off at half time as he had been run ragged. Seeing CAFC score 3 and win an away match always sticks in the mind.
