I don't particularly mind as long as it's not a Millwall, Palace or Leeds fan. In which case, I have been known to lose it a little. Never violent, mind. Just vitriolic
When you concede a goal you are at your most pissed-off and the last thing you want to see is an away fan celebrating right in front of you. It's a pretty stupid thing to do. Having said that, incidents like the crutch throw v Millwall are pretty funny.
Why are they in the home end? Is it because the away end is full or is it just one or two individuals going with friends or getting a freebie? Or is it a bunch of herberts who want to prove how hard they are? How do they celebrate? Are they just pleased that their team scored or are they mocking us for conceding? What is their general demeanour? Do they show an awareness that they are in someone else's area and tone things down a little or are they just cocky gobshites? Are they a team that we would consider to be rivals, or where there's been some animosity, or are they just one of many other teams that happen to be in our division. Do their fans have a reputation for ugly behaviour?
Answering this in relation to Watford today. I can't really say I'm that concerned (at the moment).
Im not a violent person in any way but im an emotional football fan, so unless it was a goal that did not effect the outcome of the match i would be really annoyed if i had to watch an away fan celebrate right next to me in the home end.
If they were decent enough person and just wanted to sit with a Charlton supporting mate then i would not mind so much or at all.
i remember i went to an away game at coventry and i was sitting in the home end. when we equalised shortly before the end i couldn't contain myself and leapt up cheering and then i remembered where i was and looked around to see i was the only one standing up yelling and all these faces looking at me. i slowly and carefully sat down feeling a bit uncomfortable and was glad to get out unscathed at the end.
Older fans like me have done it a lot. There is a perverse excitement when only you know you're the only one favouring the other team, and I feel a kind of kinship if I spot a non lairy other supporter near me at the Valley. You also get a bit of a feel about to what degree the other guys are blinkered and have a sense of superiority. To that end I have always found decent fans at Orient, Norwich, Wolves (surprisingly), Barnet, Arsenal (yeah, I know)...and others. I have found the triumphalist nasty finger jabbers at Crystal Palace obviously, but less obviously at Fulham, Ipswich, Colchester, Wrexham, and Wycombe. I would say that the most consistently decent experiences I've had as an 'alien' fan has always been at Leyton Orient.

In many other sports fans of both camps interact peacefully.
