Bob Peeters has revealed Charlton’s two deadline day targets had already agreed to join the Addicks but were prevented from doing so by their clubs.
It was ultimately a frustrating quiet final day of the window as the SE7 side failed to land a pair of unknown players, leaving the head coach still searching for a much-needed striker to boost his attacking options.
Peeters was asked today to explain why the potential deals had collapsed so late on.
“Because you always have to negotiate with the teams,” he said.
“It is between two clubs and we were very close.
“At the end we didn’t achieve an agreement between the two clubs.
“We agreed with the players but it is always about the clubs.
“If you want a player in the two clubs need to agree over a transfer.”
Peeters was then asked what the chances were either - or both - could now join on loan.
“I don’t know if they want to come on loan but we will see.
“The transfer window is closed and I’m focussing on my team at the moment, but if there are players – whether it is on loan or in January – who can strengthen our team, we will do it.”
