Church is a decent player. In a side that creates chances hell do ok. We were poor last season and he knew any chance might be the only one we get which piled pressure on.
Good luck to him but I don't understand why they would even play a striker if he is the best available. Unless Bale is noticeably less effective as the main man compared to coming off the wing.
Oh he's a Charlton Life darling now all of a sudden.
Hardly a Charlton Life darling, I just find the constant slagging off tiresome and dull. There must have been over 10 negative threads set up about him since the end of last season and although he's got a poor record for us, he never gives less than 100% and that alone to me is enough to spare him the slagging off he gets. I don't like Charlton players getting stick generally unless they're not putting in the effort (see Marcus Bent, JFH etc) but at least he doesn't seem to be too affected at the moment. Hopefully he'll prove people wrong as the likes of Lawrie Wilson, Carl Leaburn, Andy Hunt (ridiculously), Stuart Balmer, Mark Bright, Matt Svensson and countless others have done in the past.
What's a football club without some negativity though........

Fact is he has scored 3 league goals in 40 plus league games for us as a striker. Whatever he earns, its too much.
That may be true but Kermorgant didn't score many more for us last season and he is hailed as goodness knows what!
Let's face it, Messi would have struggled to have scored for us last season.
Kermorgant scored more than double the amount of goals in half a season for us than Church did in 40 league games. Not to mention everything else he had in his game. By far the best player Charlton have had since being in the Premier League.
The quality and value of which they brought to Charlton really couldn't be further apart from each other.

*cough* Andy Reid *cough*
Still Yann for me. Andy Reid was fantastic but there are a few other players of his type at this level (not many mind).
On the other hand, I've not seen someone as good in the air as Yann in a Charlton shirt in the 20 odd years I've been going. I don't think I've seen a player as deadly from free kicks either. Such a unique player not just for Charlton, but he's one of a kind in this division at what he does.
I know I face an uphill task with this, but I don't get the Andy Reid thing. He looked good, but in relegation year, what did he provide? A half assed shot against Watford at home that rolled toward the line and got cleared. That's all I remember. Some lovely passes that didn't result in anything. That's what I remember. Then he got a better offer and left. Thanks Andy.

Was the only talent at the Valley in a side of pure shite under Pardew.
Sublime left foot and head and shoulders above anyone else football intelligence wise. Dont blame him for moving to Sunderland. I bet the club didnt turn up their nose at the £5m either.

His sale was a nail in our coffin, Like Parker at the time.
Good player was Yann but come on m8 lets not make him out to be Cantona and hasnt Jacko scored more 3 kicks than Yann?
I'm not making him out to be Cantona. I reckon he is the best player we have had since 2007.
Jackson has scored 3 free kicks (including 1 deflected against Luton). I can remember at least 6 from Yann (Rochdale, Yeovil, Brighton, Wycombe, Barnet x 2).
I actually think Jackson's free kicks are quite poor.

The two in quick succession against Wednesday and Shef United were quality

Churchy has a real opportunity to shine tonight. I'm really rooting for him. Interesting the hear the panel on SS5 speak well of him in terms of potential.

I mean he hasn't seen much game time this season so I certainly won't slag him off for the sake of it. Plus, he's made a telling contribution with few minutes under his belt with the assist already. I still ultimately think that based on what I saw last season, he's prob not up to scratch, but who knows, we have a better team this season.
Also looks like we might not get anymore forwards in, so if we can get something back, I think we'll need it

But I hope that makes him refreshed and wish him luck for his big game tomorrow
I think people would be suprised by who reads this site.
He cant get in the team at the moment so theres nothing to take the p*ss out of and express frustration anyway.
He assisted igors 2nd at brighton quite sweetly. Thats a decent positive coming out of him at least.
Strikers (with better ability and higher status) can dramatically lose confidence...if there is no confidence in them via the fans.
