Tomorrow will see the return of Charlton legend Mark Kinsella to the Valley. He's Colchester's Assistant Manager. Sorry for the seperate thread. I thought it might add a few to the "gate".
Maybe the memories of some might fade, but Mark Kinsella was a top top player for us, true legend of the first order. If I end up in the West Stand I shall certainly clap him to his seat.
There will be two of the most inpirational captains we have ever had at The Valley tomorrow. Mark Kinsella as visiting asisstant manager and Johnnie Jackson our current capain.
Over the last five years or so, some fans have "wanted their Charlton back" well if they go tomorrow and dont applaud Kinsella (If the opportunity arose) then I gotta question their above statement
Mark Kinsella and the team he Captained will forever be a statement of what it means to be Charlton and will forever deserve to be recognised for that
Ooh mark Kinsella mark Kinsella mark Kinsella Ooh mark Kinsella mark Kinsella mark Kinsella Ooh mark Kinsella mark Kinsella mark Kinsella OOOOOh Mark Kinsella..........................

Don't rely on the club to announce his entrance. Lennie has been back on numerous occasions in the past few years and no announcement has been made to acknowledge the mans great achievements for our club. Perhaps we don't recognise opposition assistant managers
Would be very surprised if the club announce him (As they ignored Curbs when he came back to Charlton with West Ham)... Sometimes its about doing something for someone without Dave Lockwood having to announce it.
Probably mean more to Kinsella if that happened as means people will remember what he did without having to be reminded
I still remember where I was when I found out we'd sold Kinsella. And for a measley million. And think of the tosh we've watched since then. Is it me or was Curbs responsible for that classic Charlton muck up?
Bollocks kinsella was an absolute legend, propa Charlton played for the shirt and got stuck in.
Depends how you measure legend - true legends for me were the likes of Bartram,Jimmy Seed,Hewie,Killer,SuperClive - people who changed the club - Kins wasnt quite at that level, although granted he wasnt far behind. One of my favourite players - never gave the ball away cheaply.
Was instead Captain of a team that won the Play-Off final... worked tirelessly to keep us in the Premier League only to sadly fail, he was also one of the main players tipped to leave Charlton after relegated yet stayed and Captained the team straight back up and there we stayed under his leadership

Not really fair in this case. He had suffered a bad knee injury, and sadly when he returned he had lost pace and his whole game suffered. I felt gutted for him. The Irish had been starting to compare him favourably to Roy Keane. Mark Kinsella didn't quite get the rewards from football that his talent and professionalism deserved.

not the way i recall it , Kinsella wasn't getting much of a look in due to some fella called Scott Parker emerging and Kins was suffering from the odd niggle, so as with most things that people try to lay on Curbs door you're wrong and Alan Curbishley is quite simply a Charlton managerial god that never got or gets the full worship he deserves

Was more than the odd niggle, Oohaah. Serious problem that couldn't be rectified, specialists involved without any good resolution. But as you say, not Curbs fault at all.

Shouldn't this be on the "religion thread", morts ?
I bumped into Roger Alwen a few months after we'd sold Kinsella, I was absolutely gutted. He told me as Prague said that he had serious irreversible knee issues so that was it.
The President I'm afraid your memory has seriously let you down... To suggest Kinsella is not worthy of the term legend is borderline offensive. That man was pure class for us, twice promotion winning captain and led one of our best ever sides, player of the year twice in a row, proper raw passion and desire, he understood Charlton, dragged us through matches single handedly on numerous occasions, and would've bled for us. I would lay down a pretty hefty sum that curbs would name him his best ever signing. I hope most haven't forgotten what a huge contribution he made to our most and only successful spell in well over half a century.

Only players name and number I've ever had on a Charlton shirt and I proudly wore it at Lansdowne Road one chilly night when he played for the ROI and was awarded player of the year or something similar for them. I'm the only fecker cheering and shouting Kin-Kin-Kin-Sella whilst the eejits around me in the stand are mumbling about some feller called Keane. Legend.

Well said, sir.
Precisely, which is why I thought I'd start the thread, pointing out he'd be at The Valley tomorrow. He's a legend to me.
Kinsella stood out in 98-99 as our one absolute class prem player. Stayed with us when Blackburn were sniffing around, to think we stalled on paying money for him and almost let him go to Gillingham. Absolute legend.

cafc history could have been very different if we'd missed out!
