Finished 3-2. We were definately the better side although we made it a more interesting game with some dodgy defending: a couple of sloppy back-passes, a needless penalty and letting the ball bobble around at the back on occasions led to a scoreline that flattered Billericay somewhat. We got off to a slow start and were one down before we got going properly. We gradually got more into the game. In the first half our best attacks all came from crosses into the box. Sho-Silva got a well deserved equaliser for us shooting from close range though it did seem like he might wait forever before firing. Almost immediately we conceded a penalty and they made it 2-1, sending Captain Phillips the wrong way. That's how it stayed until half time.
In the second half we looked a little sharper. Now most of our attacks came through the middle and there was some good crisp passing. We looked particularly dangerous when running at them. We got the equaliser through Osborne who thumped in a terrific low drive from a very wide angle. After that we had several good chances that were wasted. I won't name an shame people (mainly 'cos I'm uncertain of the names) but we should have scored a few more. Our winning goal came from Umerah who beat the defence and than neatly chipped the ball over the prostrate keeper.
Stand out players for me were Munns in centre midfield with great running and passing and Dawa (I think) who was very lively attacking on the left.
I was at the game as well, nice to meet Maglor, had a good chat.
Funny how you see the game different to others, agree with most that Stig has said apart from Jack Munns. I was expecting him to be running the show after his pre-season stint with the first team. I thought he was anonymous in the first half and only came into it in the second when Billericay tired and made subs. Don't think he has a chance of getting anywhere near the first team.
If I'm honest, I was pretty disappointed with tonight's showing, the only two players that shone for me was Oliver Muldoon in midfield and Tareiq Holmes-Dennis who was my man of the match at left back.
Harry Osborne took up some great positions on the right and had acres of space, but the end product was very disappointing apart from his cross for the first goal. The centre half pairing of Lee and Thomas looked very suspect at times. Kadell Daniel had some nice touches but lacked ideas, Kennedy and Jeffrey played ok.
Billericay had a few lumps playing for them and could have scored a couple more with our shaky defending. I know you cant really judge on one game, but the only player that looks likely to progress is Holmes-Dennis who looks a real prospect at left back.
Entertaining game with Jeffrey and Holmes-Dennis the best performers down the left flank I thought. It is true to say that the defence had a poor first half and could easily have shipped more goals than they did. In control in the second period - our substitutes were better than their substitutes. Highlights: well watching Ben Roberts climb up the ladder to get to the camera position on the stand roof - he's not going to get a job as a window cleaner if he gives up coaching goalkeepers. And seeing Jon "82nd Minute" Fortune on the terraces.
