Another review of the up and coming Championship season

20th position strugglers. Personally think this is way too pessimistic but if people want to underestimate us ... no worries

  • Looking at our squad now I would probably make them right. Up front our options look poor
  • Simon Church under key men? Goes to show he's just another wannabe that is clueless. Why even talk about another club when you have no idea about them..
  • Not even mentioning our biggest signing Vetokele and listing Church as a key man, pretty large indicators that this guy hasn't got a clue.
  • Also have Millwall playing at the dell, well researched then.
  • Got be honest, I don't totally buy in to all this preseason optimism. Think this could easily go the way of the Dowie era. We've spent a bit but on relatively unheard of/untested players and/or older journeymen who have struggled to settle at any club for a number of seasons. Add the managerial upheaval that has been going on since January and the inexperience of 4Bs into the mix and it think it's perfectly understandable why a neutral would look at us and think we might struggle again this season. It's not like we've pulled up any trees in preseason either.

I could well be wrong (hope I am) and the likes of Tucs and Igor (sounds like a 90s garage group) could be world beaters who hit top form the instant the season starts proper, but I think it's highly likely we'll start slowly at the very least. Hopefully people will stay patient and some momentum will build but I'll be happy with finishing comfortably in mid table. If we get as high as the top half it'll have been a pretty decent season IMHO.

  • Pre season reviews from non Charlton people are an utter waste of time. let's face it , despite our signings this summer we have still managed to get zero publicity nationally and to be honest , that's the way i like it .
let the lazy journalists big up the usual dull teams like Forest , Norwich and Derby while we get on on with our own business in surprising a few people.
Either that or they have actually got lucky and are right but i have a feeling they aren't.
  • Rod Liddle in the Sunday Times has us relegated

No big surprise as he's Millwall.

  • Pointless journo wastes space on his narrow view on football. Remind me to avoid the Sunday Times more regularly.
  • He's probably Welsh.
  • Rod Liddle is an awful man and awful journalist. And not just because he supports Millwall.

This one paints us in a slightly more favourable light.

At least the journo has done his homework. Exciting yes. Still lots of unknowns definitely.

I'm looking forward to it. We have had a number of years of pretty uninspiring football is my opinion including the runaway league win. This season should be very different.

...and a twat. A poor man's jeremy clarkson (also a twat)

  • What is it that Liddle Rod is wearing on his head ?
  • That Rod Liddle is more mouthy than usual about us suggests to me that he might be afraid we are leaving Millwall behind in the bottom 6. Our back five looks familiar albeit with a new keeper... Let's see how the new look front six play, whatever the system and personnel.
  • Have I missed something - who did we sell Deeney to?

Charlton are getting used to their 3rd new manager of 2014 and the lack of stability may mean another battle for survival. They are recruiting better players than they did in January but it will take time for the new look side to bed in. Petters chargers may improve and should have enough to stay up

  • Id say we'll be around the bottom half again this year. But I can probably pick 8 sides that (on paper) have a worse squad than us at the moment. The uncertainty is our new manager and a few unknown imports.

Dan Childs. No idea if he's a Charlton fan.
