KEEP THE FAITH

edited April 2007 in General Charlton
okay today was a low blow coming how it did. However we are still in the sort of position we'd only have dreamed about when Pards took over. No one said it was going to be easy. No one said we'd be out of the mire and laughing with four games to go. We knew it would be difficult. We must keep the faith. There are still many twists and turns to go in this relegation battle and we have to hold our nerve. It'll be just like us to draw with Sheff utd next Saturday but who's to say the following week we won't win at Ewood whilst Utd lose at home at Watford. There is a long way to go yet. There will yet be a few results to raise eyebrows at, such as our win at Anfield. We just have to keep the faith and trust in Pards. I know I do.

  • well said large
  • large you have been following charlton as long as me hand on heart do you think we will stay up.i personally feel and have done for a long time we will fall a little short but not for the want of trying.we look tired and need someone to help benty.
  • Thought we were a bit negative in the Man City away game and to a certain extent today's game....but Reading was a winnable game on paper and I thought we were poor and it may prove our downfall. I fully expect a draw next week which may seal our fate. Pards has done a great job...today was a kick in the teeth. Everton fans on netaddicks thought we were poor and deserved to lose. Where they watching same game as me ? The blame has to placed on the board with the ridiculous management structure they put in place and some poor decisions i.e Dowie and Reed. We were pathetic up until Xmas but at least Pards has given us some hope.

The problem for me is that once we started getting somewhere Pards positive tactics using 442 wingers etc changed to dull Curbishley style bore draws try no to get beat. We should have gone for it at City, and pretty much every other game, I just can't see us getting two more wins playing this way. Romm has been a bench warmer and Faye is back in favour - says it all to me. Ambrose overrated, 1 good game in ten much like Hughes.
  • no use in playing the blame game now, its fruitless and won't help us.

Also think you are doing Reading a dis-service, people expected us to beat them because they are called Reading, but don't disguise the fact they were one of the best teams outside the top 4 to come to the Valley this season.

I'm pig sick we've lost, its made it that little bit harder, but i don't think anyone can accurately say 'we're going down' or 'we're staying up'. Anything can happen still.
  • someone is going to step up to the plate and make themselves a hero. Must start with JFH opfront with Bent next week, unless Marcus is fit, and who knows he may produce one last hoorah. Agree that things have taken a downturn in the last three games, resuts and performance wise, but with four to go I'm sure we can turn it around. WestHam may still go down but they could still do us a favour at Wigan and Wigan at Sheff Utd last game is going to help us in some way, shape or form.
  • As I said on 606 tonight we will just have to win the next three games, it really is as simple as that and I believe we will. we put in an excellent shift today, created a great number of chances against a side gunning for a europe place. We have a platform, Fulham are dire and the one we must focus upon, they are the wounded one in the pack metaphorically for me
  • Yeah but Fulham play Blackburn next week who have.nothing to play for....I can see them scraping a win and the Hughes blasting them and then they go out and beat us....sorry for the doom and gloom but today's result has put me in a bad mood plus we are having a nor'easter rainstorm here in CT and its bloody shyte outside...looked nice in blighty today.....

Or alternatively, Blackburn get turned over by Watford on Wednesday, and Fulham suffer the backlash at the weekend.

In some respects, losing the way we did today could be the best thing to happen to us. Admittedly I would have been much happier to have got a point, but Everton aren't in the European places just on luck are they? I suspect Pards will be saying the following this week
    1) We gave a team in the European spots a real run for their money at their own ground today. With the support of the Valley crowd behind us, if we keep that level of performance up there's no reason why we can't beat Sheffield United convincingly, and so go above them, and put further pressure on Fulham
    2) Benty's 89th minute goal shows that if we keep making chances, we will score, and nothing's a lost cause until the game is over..
    3) Conceding that last minute goal was a real sickener - we need to keep concentrating and competing for the full 97 (or however many it is ) minutes in all our remaining games to make sure that we don't go through that again.

I'd much rather the team learnt lesson 3 today rather than next week where it's likely to be significantly more crucial.

There is nothing to be gained by not getting behind Pards and the team 100%. We also need the players to look at themselves in the mirror and ask "what can I do to be a hero". We need them to step up to the plate and become legends.

JFH, it's your chance to fulfill the expectations we had when you were signed.
Matt H, you have shown again what a model professional you are, lets see you cap that with a goal or two.
ZZ, you can become a legend to billions with goals to keep us up.
Baby Bent, we need you to lead from the front with goals and assists.
Big Bent, lets have 90 minutes a game out of you. Remember Chelsea last season, more of that mate.
Song, show Arsene what his missing, try shooting sometimes, you'll find it can work wonders.
JT, time to repay those who have maintained faith in your ability.
Romm, for fuck sake, give us some more reasons to love your Danishness.
El Kak, time for you to hit the target again with one of your thunderbolts, and remember what planet you are on.
Diawara, you are fanatastic in the air, give us one at the other end.
Maggie, you've got a peach of a left foot, lets see you go for it.
Luke, think of the goal against Watford and give us more of the same.
Ambrose, nothing but your most dangerous offensive form will suffice.
Hughesy, think of that goal against Villa, lets have more of that.
Lisbie, just imagine you are playing Liverpool each game.
Faye, Get your Pompey boots on!

    Last but no means least

Scotty, you have been magnificent all season, give us three more performances so that we won't miss you on the last game.

The games can't come quick enough for me, I never doubted that the "run in" would be anything but a roller coasted ride. We are certainly on one now, we need to play our part starting of Saturday. No jitters, no quiet periods, no moaning. We must treat them all as our hero's and big them up throughout the game. I want to see us as passionate as we can be in all the home area's.

    COME ON YOU REDS!!

    WE ARE STAYING UP!!

  • After Shef Utd and West Ham both get well beaten this week, we will beat Sheff Utd on Saturday. Wigan will lose to Liverpool and Fulham will lose to Blackburn. Then on Sturday night we will be 15th! Five teams below us.
  • Chirps,
great shout, only minor detail is that Sheff Yoo will have a game in hand- However- after a day out of contact and not even being to get a text regarding the score until half an hour after the finish- that has cheered me up

    Bring it on!!!!!

No they won't. Their game in hand is Tues against Man Utd. WHU play Chelsea on Wed night, hence my first line: "After Shef Utd and West Ham both get well beaten this week"

Sheff Utd play their game in hand on Tuesday - away to Man Utd.

They could have some seious goal difference damage after. Pray.....
  • [cite]Posted By: Oggy Red[/cite]Sheff Utd play their game in hand on Wednesday - away to Man Utd.

    No, Tues as stated above.
  • Your right, DJ, I've edited it. Thanks!
  • [cite]Posted By: DJ Davey Dave[/cite]No they won't. Their game in hand is Tues against Man Utd. WHU play Chelsea on Wed night, hence my first line: "After Shef Utd and West Ham both get well beaten this week"
I don't like all this having to support Man U and Chelsea. It just feels so unnatural somehow. Ah well, sacrfices have to be made I suppose.
  • Bang on DJ Davey Dave - well said that man, that's the sort of spirit we need!

Yes, today was disappointing but getting a point up there would have been a bonus seeing as they are 10-4-3 at Goodison, one of the best home records in the division.

Sheff United will come to us next weekend on the back of at least a 3-0 drubbing at Man United and West Ham will have almost certainly been put out of their misery by Chelsea.

Then, next weekend, if we can beat the Blades by two goals or more and Fulham also lose to Blackburn (a distinct possibility) then we WILL be 5th from bottom and going to a now safe Blackburn with a great shot at three points before the Spurs game at home.
  • Football don't you just love it. For most of the season we have been crap, then the man with a plan takes over and slowly steers us around that corner. Ive been back in the country now for two weeks and have seen the two home games and the citeh game. Were a good team under pressure who WILL get out of trouble before the end. Sheffield United game this week is big for them in terms of how many goals they concede. I would truly love a repeat of ManYoo's result from last week 7-1. Sheff U, like wigan the other week will come for a point. But we have proved in the last couple of months that were better than them and will prove it next Saturday to soar out of the relegation mire. Next up is a Blackburn team going nowhere, just out of the cup, season over. I wouldnt normally be looking forward to a trip to Blackburn as we have a shocking record there. But we won the league there, and will be practically safe after the game, cheered on by a vociferous support. Next up will be the hopefully tired Spurs who have a very shocking defence. So 9 from 9 for me with a nice day in scouseland not worrying about the other results. West Ham is all but forgotten. Fulham i think have no fight left and theyv'e just appointed Les Reed enough said. It will be one of Fulham or Sheff U. WE ARE STAYING UP, SAY WE ARE STAYING UP, WE ARE STAYING UP, SAY WE ARE STAYING UP

  • i'm a broken man this morning, our time wasting came back to haunt us.
  • did you have to go and mention jf* - I had completely forgotten about him - he is a spent force and a waste of time, please will no one mention him again
  • I actually thought Reading would be a tough game, and a draw was a good result. My issue has been the more winnable games. Blame game no, but how to proceed now is key. Should we go hell for leather in all our remaining games and hope to pick 5 or six points??

    R)
  • I was optimistic up until the Reading game. We needed to win that. I reckon we're just gonna fall short by 1 point. Very down at the moment. We need Man Yoo to spank Sheff Yoo to get our goal difference back up.
  • Well said Valley. I think the players lost a lot of fight when they actually moved out the relegation zone. This can be seen by the fact that at the Reading game we took our foot off the gas after about 10/15 mins attacking wise.

Yesterday yes we did play good football at times but I was very dissapointed that there seemed to be no urgency from the team at times. This can be seen from Everton's corners and crosses, to me it did not look like the players were closing people down 110% at every possible point. Both the goals to me were good finishes from them but absolutely shocking defending. It seems that anyone can run at our defense and we back off and let them through.

Another point was this sort of lazy tactic to getting in the box. In the first half yesterday when Ambrose had various runs no one was in there when he put a ball in.

Yes we must get behind the team and yes we could have only dremt of being in this position. However, with our chances yesterday it is very dissapointing we didnt get anything.

Hey, guys, Sheff Utd on Saturday !

Forget yesterday's pain - we've got another chance to win.

And if you want to lay down and die......then read Ormiston and Canada Addick's post again.
  • WE MUST WIN on Saturday - no other options.

We played reasonably well on Sunday, ok, we lost - but most people on this board and in the Valley would have thought a point from that game the best we could hope for. We could have won, but they had chances too, superbly saved by Carson.

Another thing: If we do go down, we still owe our gratitude to Pardew for the effort and pride he has instilled in this club to keep us fighting to the bitter end. Under Reed, we were practically down..dead...buried. Look at us now, we have a chance, the fans are 100% behind Pardew and the team, and we are playing like the Charlton of 6 years ago. If we do get relegated, I am certain that we will bounce straight back up to where we belong.

    COME ON YOU ADDICKS!!!!
  • Any goal against Sheff U on sat will count as double in goal different. So lets hope that will can repeat the west ham at home score line.
