double standards

Poyet was out of contract, left us for more money and to play at a higher level and he has received lots if social media abuse
Today we signed a young player who had been at his previous club for 5 years, they played him and developed him yet he walks away to play in a better league for presumably more money but yet all I read are posts of excitement. Has he done anything different to poyet except join us rather than leave us?

nope, you are right as i have prev noted....we footie fans are fickle fkrs...
  • This argument failed when you said he had been at that club for 5 years
  • You mean gudmondsson? Who left Breidablik after 22 games to join AZ? That's about the only parallel to Poyet.

We signed an out of contract player from AZ who had played for them for 5 years but they didn't develop him.

If those unhappy with Poyet have to move on then those defending him need to do the same as well. Let's focus on our team and the players who want to be here not some guy at west ham with a dodgy haircut ;).

The new lad from AZ has given 4 years and 150 games to AZ Alkmaar, before deciding to try his luck elsewhere.

If Poyet had done that, no one on here would have complained - and most would have wished him luck.

    Just like Scott Parker
  • Poyet was here 7 years.

  • Dutch Prem to the Championship is probably a football motivated move, not a money one.

Really , do you think Europa League and Dutch Prem is a better thing than Championship , i'm not so sure on footballing terms ....personally i think he's here and it's for the money cos we'll be weighing a decent salary/signing on fee
  • Poyet prolly trained less time at the club in his 7 years than the other fella did in his 5 years
  • Yup, Poyet gave us bugger all return on our investment over the years. Ditches as soon as he gets a whiff of the cash and in the process sticks two fingers up at the club who develops him by not giving a full season then letting us cash in.

Other guys plays his football, collects his wages, completes his contract and moves on.

    Cracking comparison.

    Yup no competition...

Gudmondsson gave AZ four years of service playing a key part year mostly as he played over 30 games a season for them and moved on because he wanted a new challenge which is understandable in Football these days (nor did he come through the AZ YTS)

On the other side you have Diego Poyet... played half a season for us, first offer that came along he turned around and left saying he too wanted a new challenge... Im sorry but after such a short period how quickly can you get so bored (on that basis should we expeft him to leave West Ham in January?)

If I was to compare Gudmondsson to anyone it would be Hamer or Dervite, two players we couldnt get to sign new Contracts yet went with our thanks for the service they'd given us

Had Poyet signed a new Contract, had stayed for the length (Say two years) and then left on a free I wouldnt be bothered, with him its the fact we gave him his chance of First Team action that Im annoyed with him for his actions

i.e. Yes at the end of the day we could have left him in the U21s until he left but then he may not have found a Premier League club, he could have ended up at another Championship side because until he'd shown his worth in League Football he could have just been another over-hyped kid

i'd say Poyet has moved up the footballing ladder and this fella has gone sideways .... still the Charlton blind/rose tinted/blinkered can never see too far

    Not quite, was it?

There we were in the January having our best ever Prem season, in 4th place and chasing Chelsea down for European Champions League qualification, having just beaten them 4-2.
Chelsea first unsettled the player then put an offer, not because they particularly wanted Parker for their team but to derail our push for 3rd place.

Parker refused to play for Charlton again because he wanted to chase the money and the glory.

Your old mate Curbs wasn't too happy at the time, you'll remember?

    ;o)
  • Parker just wanted to try his luck elsewhere , just so happens 3 times his salary was on offer !

I dunno... the Eridivse may be the Dutch version of the Premier League yet so many players have made the jump from that league with no success...

By coming to the Championship he's gonna be showing the Prem clubs that he can do it over here (After being released at a young age by Chelsea and Fulham) and they may end up taking more of a risk than had he stayed in Holland

  • Parker downed tools in training and more or less gave up so we had no choice but to sell!

  • If I was to compare Gudmondsson to anyone it would be Hamer or Dervite, two players we couldnt get to sign new Contracts yet went with our thanks for the service they'd given us

Agreed, Hamer and Devite are the equivalent comparison to Gudmundsen leaving AZ.

  • 5years of football vs 5 months. It doesn't even compare, apples and monster munch
