Signing trialists......

edited July 2014 in General Charlton
So with Bikey now signed up, what other trialists have we had over the last few years who have gone on to sign a contract (and make an impact) ?

Church last year, Pritchard a couple of years ago, Chris Dickson did but had no impact.

Who else has there been ?

Kinsella. Scored a 30 yarder against Orient Pre season 1996 on trial and then went back to Colchester. Signed a few weeks later after the club heard that Gillingham were interested. One that nearly got away due to unnecessary dithering by the board
  • Dervitte played on trial before the first season back in the Championship.
  • Remember when we nearly re-signed andy hunt?
  • Bolanos would have been one.
  • Two that we tried and failed to sign were Bolanos and that Japanese/Brazilian dude.

Did Zheng Zhi have a trial before he signed?
  • Two that we tried and failed to sign were Bolanos and that Japanese/Brazilian dude.

    Alex... From Shimizu S-Pulse
  • Who was that French striker last year we had on trial, and what happened to him
  • Alex dos Santos. Would have been a brilliant signing.
  • Adamo Coulibaly

I thought Kinsella was more of the case that Colchester didn't want to sell him and he kinda instagated the move after returning from the trial. Could be wrong... its happened before a lot ;-)

  • Corey Browne

I remember him scoring a blinder against Welling one year but I never heard about him again. I always expected him to go on to great things

If Colchester didn't want to sell him then why let him go on trial with another club?

Sorry my bad, i meant to say didn't want to sell him for what we were offering, but then he effectively forced the move, again could be wrong. I still believe he is one of the best bargains we have ever had.

I believe it was more about money. Charlton didn't want to pay what Colchester were asking, so he went back.

Gillingham were keen when they heard Kins could be available again - that was the point Curbs had a quiet word with the Board about upping our offer, and finally got his man.

    Or something like that!
  • Nick Pope was on trial with us before signing.
  • Christian Dailly

    Merde, you mean?

    Oh, he was shit.

  • As I said, the french striker last year was Adamo Coulibaly
  • Who was the other one who played in a Friendly mid season against West Ham?

  • Weren't Munns and Daniel both on trial before we signed them?
  • A couple of summers ago I believe we had Grzegorz Rasiak, ex-Spurs striker.

And before that the tidy ball playing midfielder/striker from Swansea ......Bauza, was it?

Yup Guillem Bauza.. Ended up at Hereford Town for a season before going on to Northampton and Exeter (Now with Port Talbot Town)

Grzegorz Rasiak certainly did play on loan for us too (Possibly at the same time as Bauza?)

We did indeed Oggy. I have a pic of him scoring a pen versus Carshalton. Alonso also played and I thought he looked decent, shows what I know ;)

    Same with Kurtis Cumberbatch?
  • Who was the little Chelsea midfielder who played for us at Welling a few seasons ago.
He was so famous, his name escapes me.

And Freddie Eastwood, back in Curbs or was it even the Dowie summer?
  • And more recently the lad who played for Ramsgate, the kid brother of a poster on here.

He scored in an U21 game and we wouldn't sign him because it was said there was no budget.
    Hull City signed him instead.
